Web2 Session 1 - 39 views

Here is a beautiful webquest which uses links to many Educational Technology leaders and also some fascinating videos. I love this because it is a great activity to share with beginners, but also because of the super-cool layout and integration of a variety of media. I want to find out how they did this? Just creating a web page or with another tool. Cool PD tool to share.

  •
Bitty Browser is an incredibly cool and useful tool. It allows you to embed a website inside another web page - so if you want to embed a web page for people to use in your wiki, just use the bitty browser. You can even create up to 100 feeds and make a mini RSS reader for education news for those teachers you KNOW will NEVER use RSS. Fascinating tool.

Purposeful Networking | Reflection 2.0 - 0 views

  • the older demographic uses networking more for professional purposes

  • the education profession historically has been a profession of “isolationism” despite recent efforts to establish Professional Learning Communities within schools.
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • Networking is extremely powerful for connecting educators and students to professionals outside of education - the challenge in education today is breaking down barriers and allowing students and teachers access to the sites and time in the school day and curriculum
  •
A good in-depth article arguing that purposeful networking (easily done w/ web2.0 tools) should be a skill addressed in education.

You can even promote world peace by connecting with teachers and students in their classrooms worldwide and learning more about each other's country and culture The tools for your use include the ability to have live video chat, make PowerPoint presentations, stream video, share your desktop, record and share your presentation, and much more. Guests do not have to download any software. They simply click on the link to your conference that you send them, no cost, no travel and better yet, no wasted time. This tool is affordable and easily fits into a classroom, school or administartive office budget. As a former superintendent in the education system with more than 50 schools spread out 400 miles along a major highway, the ability to communicate with everyone in an efficient, effective and economical manner was essential. Hope you find this helpful. Best wishes, Barry

"Well the iPad has really hit the news in education circles since it's release last year. I'm sure lots of teachers are wondering whether it's hype and what the true potential of these devices are as tools for learners. I've had my iPad for about 8 months now, so I've decided to share my reflections so far on what I like about the iPad, what potential I feel it offers for developing course books and course materials and some of the problems."
