Clipmarks - What are you finding on the web? - 0 views

  •
With Clipmarks in your browser you're always a click away from sharing anything you find on the web. Instead of copying and pasting links, Clipmarks is like adding a pair of scissors to your browser, letting you capture exactly what you want others to see (text, images or video).

Opportunities, Access & Obstacles | David Truss :: Pair-a-dimes for Your Thoughts - 0 views

  • • Online networks help to define us. My Blog, My Flickr, My Space, My Facebook, My Friends, My Profile, My Second Life, My del.icio.us, MyBlogLog, My Ning Network, My Twitter, My-Whole-Life-Connected-and-On-Display-For-Anyone-And-Everyone-To-See…
  • On many levels, ‘access issues’ are key obstacles. Yet, opportunities abound! The web lets us collaborate in many different ways! So now I have to wonder: Do we want our discussions to be around what we can’t do? It isn’t so much about ‘New Boundaries‘ as it is about removing boundaries. There were holes in the Berlin wall for years… innovative teachers today are escapees from behind similar walls. It is time to tear the old ideological walls down. Teachers and students need access granted!
  • I’ve seen a real shift in my own thinking recently. Forget whining about access, never mind the slow speed of change, get over the obstacles! Go after meaningful results. Engage and empower students. Be a leader and a role model.

  •
Lately my thoughts and efforts are shifting from figuring out how to get educators familiar and comfortable enough to use technology, as just another teaching tool to how to change or facilitate a shift of a school's culture into a learning community.

What's the purpose? « scmorgan - 8 views

"...My students were not able to "take" or "compile" much of their work. Yes, they created a list of what I asked. Yes, they created a cute "container" in which to hold their work. But I don't believe their portfolio truly represents their thinking, creating, and publishing this year. And that's too bad."

B.I.A.T. - Bringing It All Together - 0 views

  • The end result of the facilitated math experience is that the student will have had his mastery needs met because he was able to fix a miscalculation, he was able to share his fix and feel safe about making mistakes and learning from them. This student is more likely to embed the concept into his mathematical schema.
  • FACT: Students do not need marks to be motivated. Most of the best work I have ever seen came from students who were not worried about evaluative handcuffs.

Shutting Down the Machine « Ed Tech Journeys - 16 views

  • There is no tiptoeing around this thing. Those who truly desire a transformation of educational system will have to endure many of the same trials and tribulations as those who fought and fight for change in other domains. While educational change agents may not endure the physical pain that so many activists experience; it should come as no surprise that some will be intimidated, or refused tenure, or shunned by colleagues.
  • So, what will it take to transform teaching and learning? What will it take to shut down the pleasant hum of the machine that is so good at turning out 20th century students even though we’re entering the second decade of the 21st century? Leaders with Courage and Commitment!

We make these changes not because we want to include technology but because we understand that there are new skills, new literacies kids need and we can't explore those literacies with students without harnessing the ingenuity technology affords us. (Also note Simpsons 3D metaphor)

Thing 4 - Edublogosphere Effect | LeadingtoLearn - 9 views

  •
Due to the ever changing nature of technology, educators must be lifelong learners to provide the most current methodology to captivate and educate their students. I think one of the reasons we become teachers is because we enjoy the fact that each day is different and we are willing to accept those challenges. That is why we can't become stale in our methods of facilitating learning in our classrooms.
