The three options covered include JEA Digital, School News Online, and Interscholastic Online News Network. Also note that you can set up and create your own Wordpress site which may be the best, most affordable option.

College Professors Fearful of Online Education Growth - US News and World Report - 9 views

  •
A new study shows most professors are afraid of elearning and the growth of online courses. I predict that in 4-5 years the same will be true of traditional classroom teachers. The fact is that we all must be innovative and learn to teach in blended and online environments. Change creates victims and victors - with great change comes great opportunity. The one thing I can promise is if you do nothing and ignore it, you'll not be on the winning side. Learn. Connect. The Flat Classroom is a fact and it is here -- we're doing it in k12 and it is about to grow exponentially. After schools flip they're going to flatten. One leads to the other.

Sloan-C - Publications - Survey Reports - 0 views

  • Only 4.6 percent of Chief Academic Officers agreed that there are no significant barriers to widespread adoption of online learning. Nearly two-thirds of the academic leaders cite the need for more discipline on the part of online students as a critical barrier. Faculty issues, both acceptance of online and the need for greater time and effort to teach online, are also important barriers. Neither a perceived lack of demand on the part of potential students nor the acceptance of an online degree by potential employers was seen as a critical barrier.

Coursera forced to call off a MOOC amid complaints about the course | Inside Higher Ed - 4 views

  •
Sad to see that the first major fail of a MOOC would happen at my alma mater, Georgia Tech, but I do applaud their transparency and moving forward with it. I hope they do it soon. With 41,000 students in the #foemooc - they had 40,000 students in a google doc which has a limit of 50 simultaneous editors - and with no backup - they weren't ready for the problems that would happen. This was a Coursera course and it just couldn't handle the load. Interestingly this was a Fundamentals of Online Education MOOC which makes it even more ironic. Read this article for more about what happened. "Maybe it was inevitable that one of the new massive open online courses would crash. After all, MOOCs are being launched with considerable speed, not to mention hype. But MOOC advocates might have preferred the collapse of a course other than the one that was suspended this weekend, one week into instruction: "Fundamentals of Online Education: Planning and Application.""

The idea, simply and democratically, is to use the power of the Web to spread knowledge around the world.
