This infograghic is about history of distance education. We have talked about distance learning in the classroom. Distance learning is a new terminology for me. However, its history is very long than I thought.

They offer more than 300 Harvard classes in several formats online to deliver convenient Harvard lectures to your computer or mobile device. Most of our distance education courses are offered in our 15-week fall or spring semester.

I've been facilitating the extension program since my undergrad years which is beyond useful, to me. We'll also cover some aspects of it in our presentation. Thanks for sharing, İpek!

To me, the most interesting thing in this infographic is that distance learning is not recent at all, and it actually dates as back as 1700s through correspondence. As you walk through the history of online learning on the left column, the right column will inform you about some other fun facts that happened at the very same year.

I think a striking point in this infographic seems to be that the developments in the last decade seems to be quicker and more extensive than ever. There are only 12-year distance (2002-2014) between when OpenCourseWare started and 98 % of the universities started online programs. It is also seen that online courses are regarded as highly as face-to-face courses for most people of business and academy which might put the existence of today's pyhsical schools into risk. When we consider that online courses and learning tools are not that common in Turkey, it seems we are left behind that new distant learning paradigm in the world.

A survey instrument designed to measure K-12 online teachers' knowledge with respect to three key domains as described by the TPACK framework: technology, pedagogy, content, and the combination of each of these areas.

Are they measuring knowledge? Self-assessment of knowledge?

It is a self-assessment survey. The respondents were asked to rate their own knowledge of a set of tasks related to technology, pedagogy, content, and blending of these areas with a question of "How would you rate your own knowledge in doing the following tasks associated with teaching in a distance education setting?".

AtademiX, MOOC platform maintained by Distance Education Center at Atatürk University, offers several courses to anybody. I plan to enroll in "Kişilik tiplerine göre öğrencilerle iletişim kurma becerileri" course. I think this course will be helpful to all teachers in any grade level.
