Keynote - 0 views

  •
Though Keynote is Mac-only, I find it far, far, far, far, far superior to PowerPoint (and it imports and exports fine with PowerPoint, btw). It exports to Flash and QuickTime very easily, and is available for a 30 day trial

Hot Potatoes includes six applications: interactive multiple-choice, short-answer, jumbled-sentence, crossword, matching/ordering and gap-fill exercises to put on web. Hot Potatoes is free to publicly funded, non-profit, educational users who make their pages available on the web. Other users must pay for a licence.
  •
Hot Potatoes kind of straddles the tool/software divide. It's a fun powerful program that I have mainly used for crossword puzzle creation, but it is able to do a lot more, like matching games and short answer quizzes. Good for testing Knowledge-level content.

Generation M: Media in the Lives of 8-18 Year-olds - Kaiser Family Foundation - 0 views

  •
This study finds that kids and teenagers are increasing "new media" use while not decreasing "old media" use at all. In fact, sometimes they do both at the same time (going online to read the newspaper). Interesting regarding child behavior...

The Wacom Bamboo is a cool pen tablet that allows one to "draw," so to speak, directly onto the computer with the virtual pen. You can also manipulate objects with it. Great for art classes and graphic-oriented projects

I will throw this in with software, even though it is a site. Jay Is Games are the premier bloggers associated with casual games, many of which have mathematical and puzzle components. It's a good place to start to look for casual (and often educational!) "time-wasters."

iTunes U - 0 views

  •
I put this under tools, but, honestly, it's a lot more. iTunes U is a repository to tons of podcasts and the like that are all state-approved and available through iTunes for free. This site also helps teachers make their content available to other teachers.

I'm actually not sure what to call this, but I will throw it into the "tool" pile. It's just too neat not to share. With this flash program, users can create Jackson Pollock-style "splatter paintings" by moving the mouse around.

really neat tool that students and teachers can use. It looks like a remote control and operates like one too. Students can use it to answer questions in the classroom along with teachers using it to create rosters, present and develop lesson, collect student responses. These are just a couple of aspects of the "Beyond Question" device
