Nice Java word cloud web app... Would be an interesting way to make image links to articles or online courses. You could probably make a nice PowerPoint slide as well. A nice introduction to your presentations...
Another online audio chat site... Does not seem to offer private discussions, so may not be too useful in the classroom. (I have not created an account to confirm this, but there is nothing on the site to suggest privacy settings.)
I have the Common Craft site in my feed reader, as they always have great videos. Very useful for introducing people to new tools on the web. Their Wiki video is another great example.
I talked with Gavin about this at JALT-CALL, and I have to agree that it is very interesting. Even during traditional online conferencing there is a lot of back channel discussion, but I agree that SL would make it easier to "walk away from the meeting together" to continue private discussion. He had me wishing that we used SL in the MA program, as it sounds like a compelling argument.
Well, your wish may well get granted. I've now got some space in 2nd Life and am doing a short course with Gavin at the moment as a fast track into its intricacies. I'm hoping to start doing some sessions over the summer with interested parties. I know that Joe is keen and some of the onsite students also have avatars.
Both individual and "teacher" exchanges. Very little visible w/out creating an account...
Total number of Individuals looking for a language exchange : 18525
Total number of Teachers looking for a language exchange for a class : 354
Peer learning site for languages, includes video, file upload, and virtual classrooms. Ties into podcasts and seem to partner up with paid langauge learning schools for online tutoring...
Another social language exchange site focusing on setting up one-to-one exchange and social networks.
"italki.com is where you can find everything you need to learn a language. italki is a social network and an online resource for learning foreign languages."
