Your Friendly Guide to Colors in Data Visualisation - 4 views

  •
"Once upon a time, I tweeted on an urgent matter. "Can somebody tell me how to get better with color?" I wrote." My color decisions are awful." I got a lot of replies with links to tools. They were awesome, so I collected them in a blog post."

"I helped to organise a mini-unconference for a university class. It was to be something that would give other teachers a broad idea how these events work and how interactive devices can help."

"Every Teachmeet I have attended has been different. Different because of the venues, the presentations, the time of the day, the day of the week, the people who attend. This is one of the reasons I like them. Teachers sharing passion, interest, skills, questions and ideas."

Here's a search with a twist.  Like most search engines, you enter a search key to get things started.  The results are displayed based upon that key but here's the deal.  They're plotted by timezone!  And, plotted around the globe.

If you enjoy being involved in Twitter chats you may sometimes find it difficult to keep up with the discussions - you might find that running a search for the appropriate hashtag and then refreshing the search just doesn't really cut it for you. If that's the case, you might want to explore TWchat They say of themselves: "Our public service allows you to create realtime chat rooms based on twitter hashtag. Invite users and perform the presentations online without any additional software! Add your friends or colleagues to help you with moderation."

Pleased to Tweet You: Making a case for Twitter in the classroom - 0 views

  • As long as the staff member can show a detailed educational plan for the use of Twitter/Skype/etc., there should be little problem with unblocking.
  • It’s essential that the teacher emphasize responsible use by students. Probably the most important piece is close monitoring of students by the teacher,
  • My hope is that as a result of this unit, the growing number of students who are involved in social networking will make more informed choices about what they choose to share and may even consider the educational uses of these sites, perhaps setting up online study groups or book clubs.

After consideration by district technology coordinator John Haubner and other administrators, and @MessnerEnglish became our class Twitter account. It's essential that the teacher emphasize responsible use by students. Probably the most important piece is close monitoring of students by the teacher.

Good case for securing permission to access Twitter in the classroom with some notes how it should be used.

30+ Cool Content Curation Tools for Personal & Professional Use - 14 views

  •
"As the web becomes more and more inundated with blogs, videos, tweets, status updates, news, articles, and countless other forms of content, "information overload" is something we all seem to suffer. It is becoming more difficult to weed through all the "stuff" out there and pluck out the best, most share-worthy tidbits of information, especially if your topic is niche. Let's face it, Google definitely has its shortcomings when it comes to content curation and the more it tries to cater to all audiences, the less useful it becomes. The demand for timely, relevant content that is specific to our unique interests and perspectives has given rise to a new generation of tools that aim to help individuals and companies curate content from the web and deliver it in a meaningful way. These new tools range from simple, application-specific types such as social media aggregators and discovery engines, to more complex, full-blown publishing solutions for organizations."

Some new ones to explore. I suppose students need to try these tools too. These automate daily search to just the best of what you are interested in.

Kelly Fitzgerald ~ EdTech Nut: Using Collections in TweetDeck to Save Tweets - 1 views

  •
I use TweetDeck. It is a useful tool for following along during a Twitter chat as it allows you to build columns that help to keep track of the many different feeds, notifications, mentions, etc. It can be difficult to check out the resources shared and keep up with it all. There are many methods for 'saving' the resources shared. Kelly Fitzgerald @LISDTechie uses the collections feature in TweetDeck to gather those resources to review at a later time. Here she offers advice about how to add a collection and start saving those wonderful resources people are sharing.
