Reflections from The Future of Education Conference - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
The Future of Education is a topic often discussed, and at the recent gathering of educators in Florence, it was the title and theme for the conference. Now in its ninth year, The Future of Education is an international conference that attracts educators from around the world and across all domains touched by education. The conference is an inspiring two days of discussion and sharing, with the city of Florence, the centre of the Renaissance, providing a constant reminder of what might be possible when creativity and critical thinking combine. Here are my key takeaways from this event.

"And it is not a technology conference. It is an education conference. It is, hopefully, an innovation conference where we can come together, both in person and virtually, to discuss the future of schools. Every session will be an opportunity to discuss and debate ideas -- from the very practical to the big dreams."

Prezi - Presentation Software - 30 views

  • "Coolest online presentation tool I have ever seen"
    • Dave Kunkle

A super cool alternative to PowerPoint. Gives students the opportunity to collaborate on a presentation, rather than having to email it back and forth to work on it. This is an excellent presentation tool.

I love Prezi. It is engaging and it allows an individual to upload pictures and videos without worrying about whether or not they will run. Students love that it is not PowerPoint, too!

Some of our students love using this tool. The end product is fun to watch; occasionally produces motion sickness.

While this is a great source for presentations, it is also a way for students to find presentations out there to gather information as well. There might be an issue, of course, with credibility of information found though as anyone can make and share.

Prezi is a great tool for students that is similar to powerpoint. Unlike powerpoint students can work on a presentation together in different locations. Students can also access the presentation from prezi without using the same computer the presentation was made on or having to save it to a USB. However, the other computer will need to have a internet connection. When creating a presentation, you can create it on the same computer online or off which is nice. A great tool for students to use in group presentation projects!

Students would not be able to access prezi for school presentations as our ET has restricted its use.  Prezi requires personal identifying information from students who choose to use this tool.

This would be a great tool to use for presentations at the health department. It would also be useful in presenting information to the community when doing grant work. Also accessible anywhere. I like that it is different than PowerPoint. Cloud-based: Information is stored and retrieved on many different social media platforms. For students: This would be an excellent way to gain practice and experience in a fun and educational way and prepare them for the workforce.

Prezi is PowerPoint on steroids. I used it to present at a state conference last November. Check out David Warlick's newest Prezi on literacy.
  •
Create presentations on the Web. Free version available as well as Student / Educator versions.
  •
This is a new way to present information - it seems to be more active on the screen than power point. The nice thing about prezi is that it is free for educators and students and you can create your prezi offline. Prezi's can even be embedded into blogs.
  •
Awesome tool for designing presentations. Offers a large canvas that you can design, animate, and add multimedia.
  •
A colleague built a course introduction for students in this and I can see that it has lots of potential.
  •
This is a great presentation tool that zooms in and out and really helps the audience see the connection between ideas and the 'big picture'. I have yet to use it myself but I've enjoyed watching TED talks that use it.
  •
I'm going to have fun with this - thanks Kris!
  •
Prezi now has a PreziViewer tool for the iPad. This should be fun!
  •
A good tool to use to improve one's public presentations.  This seems to be especially needed for today's teenagers in schools.
  •
Visualize your ideas. Pan Left, Move Right, Zoom-in on a detail, or Zoom-out to show the big picture. Insert images, videos, YouTube videos, PDFs, or other media to make your prezi highly visual. Choose from our collection of templates and themes to personalize your prezi. Present online or download and show your prezi anytime, anywhere.
  •
A really cool twist on boring old presentations!
  •
I can't wait to substitute my "original" note format with Prezi! I think this will work outstanding with my Smart Board!
  •
Great tool to zoom in on specifics or create a second path of detail. Also allows students to work on presentations from wherever they are located.
  •
Prezi is a cloud-based presentation software that opens up a new world between whiteboards and slides. The zoomable canvas makes it fun to explore ideas and the connections between them. The result: visually captivating presentations that lead your audience down a path of discovery.
  •
This is very cool. I wonder how long it would take to learn. If it is reasonable, it would be well worth it.
  •
Have a colleague who uses this to teach nursing pharmacology. Great for visual presentation of process and decision making.
  •
I've seen others use this, but want to learn more
  •
I can see art, photography and design students enjoying this tool. It seems easy to manipulate and customize with their own work.
  •
This looks like an interesting tool to explore. I wonder about the difficult level for untrained ESL students.
  •
A collaborative presentation tool that is much more engaging that PowerPoint and that allows students to create presentations online or offline, interact with other students in their own classroom or around the world, and present from anywhere to everyone.
  •
Prezi is similar to powerpoint but with more editing tools and capabilities. It's a nice tool for students because unlike PowerPoint, students can work on a presentation together from any location. The ability to access the presentation from any computer connected to the internet gives it capabilities PowerPoint doesn't have. You could also save the presentation on a laptop or USB. Students can also work on the presentation offline which is helpful if a student doesn't have access to the internet for several days.
  •
I use this for presentations in my class all the time! The students love it because it is something different besides just using powerpoint slides.
  •
Great alternative to powerpoint; coworker uses and really likes it
  •
This can be used instead of powerpoint.  Can be viewed as public and created by anyone with internet.
  •
I would use this presentation tool to design lessons that are engaging and interactive; especially time-on-task activities that require focus and application.
  •
Prezi is a presentation tool that has to ability to mesmerize K-12 students. I have used it to show the steps students need to complete for projects. This tool can also be used to show relationships between math concepts such as fractions and proportions.
  •
A tool I've seen and have wanted to try - now here it is! I hope to use it to create engaging presentations for my new smartboard that can be differentiatied according to the student or group I'm teaching.
  •
This can be a great presentation tool. Some of the animations should be used sparingly as they can be very jarring!
  •
I was introduced to Prezi last summer and had an opportunity to create a presentation that was used to introduce our PE curriculum to parents on Open House night. Our department received incredibly positive feedback from the parents as the presentation allowed for greater engagement than PowerPoint and I found it relatively easy to embed pictures and video.
  •
    A cloud based presentation application.
  •
This is a bit of a cheat since I've already been using Prezi. It's a great tool and very intuitive if you've used PowerPoint in the past. The audio narration is easy to add with Audible (also free), and there are many templates provided.
  •
Prezi - looks like an interesting tool to try for presentations. Recommended by my son who used in college.
  •
Takes presentations to a new level.  Particularly suited to complex topics that involve recursive processes.  Would work well as a means of helping my students better understand the writing process and the research process in our class.

Is a group of video conferences available for viewing on line. It contains videos on many different topics including business, technology, education and science. This could be used in my course to provide supplemental material and to engage the students in another way. Appeals to the visual and audio learers and brings in different perspectives for consideration.
