Common Core Standards HS Math - 8 views

Multiple sites that pertain to implementing the Common Core Standards in a high school math classroom
  •
Sue, what has your school district put in place to implement Common Core Standards? I think common core standards are good idea and I understand the purpose of educational continuity of standards across the country. My only concern is that even though they were created and adopted by most states, that each state will interpret the standards in their own way.

Khan Academy has been a great asset in working with families who are educating at home. There are many wonderful lessons on many different topics!
  •
The Khan Academy is an organization on a mission. They area a not-for-profit with the goal of changing education for the better by providing a free world-class education for anyone anywhere.

All of the site's resources are available to anyone. It doesn't matter if you are a student, teacher, home-schooler, principal, adult returning to the classroom after 20 years, or a friendly alien just trying to get a leg up in earthly biology. The Khan Academy's materials and resources are available to you completely free of charge.

I teach Title I students in K-12. With that many grades, I am always looking for resources that can help to enhance my reading and math lessons. I found that the presentations are easy to understand and it also exposes my urban students to working online.

5 Strategies for Using Wikis in the Classroom - 4 views

  • Collaborative Projects using Wikis. This technology tool is ideal for project-based learning, cross curricular projects in middle school teams, and thematic units. One advantage of Wikis in collaborative projects is that they are online.
    • Olga Lopukhova

Wikis can be excellent collaborative tools for students in math. However the project should be selected carefully to bring out the collaborative spirit in the students.
  •
Educators are constantly seeking new strategies for using Wikis in the classroom. This is especially true for teachers who have formulated some ideas; however, they are still looking for additional ideas. Even teachers who have been using this technology for quite some time are on the lookout for new ideas. Regardless of being new to Wiki or a veteran, new strategies and techniques for engaging students are just around the corner.
