This website allows you to create interactive maps; provides information about mineral resources in Australia; and contains a history of the mineral industry.
Links to Australian organisations, companies, or internet sites which give map and / or other spatial information; including digital data. A number of the organisations noted here (both in government and private sectors) make their products (maps, data, etc) available for sale. Please check their websites for further details.
The following links are provided as a resource to access information, from around Australia and internationally, about spatial data policy and coordination bodies, sources of spatial data, initiatives that demonstrate application of spatial data and related technologies.
Spatial Data Infrastructure - Asia and the Pacific (SDI-AP) is a free electronic newsletter from the Global Spatial Data Infrastructure Association (GSDI) which is available in both English and Chinese language versions. The newsletter is produced for people interested in Spatial Data Infrastructure, GIS, remote sensing and geospatial data issues in Asia and the Pacific. It aims to raise awareness and provide useful information to strengthen SDI initiatives and support synchronising these activities across the region.
This Toolbox is in development and will be available for purchase from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Australia Limited in early 2011.
The Knowledge Tree is an e-journal generated by members of the Australian vocational education and training (VET) system to enable the sharing of research and learning innovation in national and global e-learning practice.
Each Learning Unit (LU) focuses on the acquisition and integration
of federal land remote sensing data with Geographic Information
Systems (GIS). LUs cover about two weeks of instruction and can
be used as skills-based case studies in a wide variety of courses
and as building blocks for new courses. Please note that most LUs
assume a basic understanding of GIS.
All materials are available free-of-charge. Scroll down the page to see a complete list of available

The MAPS-GIS Web-based modules are designed to engage students in real-world scenarios that teach geospatial thinking. Web-based GIS reduces the complexities of traditional desktop GIS, yet maintains educational advantages for teaching geospatial thinking. Included for some of the modules include map links, instructor guides, and student materials. Topics range from Aquatic Environment, Coordinates, and Floodplain Geomorphology, to Forest Biology, Forest Ecology, Geodemographics, and Groundwater
"This paper describes the way in which series of undergraduate units have been implemented on-line, using the internet as a means for reaching distance students pursuing postgraduate studies in Cartography and GIScience. It presents the way in which learning resources have been designed and implemented in a Web-based environment where the students can access the unit's study plan, on-line tutorials, hold discussion forums, consult study resources and complete quizzes that enable to monitor their progress within the unit."
RLO-CETL is funded by the Higher Education Council for England (HEFCE) to be a Centre for Excellence in the design, development and use of learning objects. Academic staff, students and multimedia developers work in teams to create, use and evaluate pedagogically rich learning objects. The partner institutions are London Metropolitan University, the University of Cambridge and the University of Nottingham.
Some of the areas covered are: Study skills, Working with information sources, Business studies, Pharmacology, Clinical skills, Evidence-based practice, Foundation science, Human life sciences, Numeracy, Maths for medics, vets and biologists and Statistics
This useful website provides general information on reading, writing, and numeracy skills. It is the successor to the BBc"s Skillswise website - which is also a must-see: http://www.bbc.co.uk/skillswise/
An industry publication with news, articles, products, career information, and advertising. You can also access the digital archives of the publication at: http://www.gpsworld.com/content/issue-list
Wisc-Online is a digital library of Web-based
learning resources called "learning objects."
The digital library of objects has been developed primarily by faculty from the
Wisconsin
Technical College System (WTCS) and produced by multimedia technicians who create
the learning objects.
The Electronic Textbook begins with an overview of the relevant elementary (pivotal) concepts and continues with a more in depth exploration of specific areas of statistics, organized by "modules," accessible by buttons, representing classes of analytic techniques. A glossary of statistical terms and a list of references for further study are included.
