Europe’s cross-border letter mail services met EU quality targets for the 14th consecutive year in 2011, the International Postal Corporation said today. Its annual test results found that last year 93% of international priority and first-class letters were delivered within three days of posting and 98.1% within five days. The achievements surpassed the European Union’s targets for 85% of intra-EU mail delivery to take place within three days of posting and 97% within five days.

Politicians have been calling on the Dutch government to intervene in the postal market within the Netherlands to encourage more competition. During a consultation process on postal reform proposals, the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) party, currently a minor coalition partner for the government, described liberalisation in the Dutch postal market since 2009 as a “complete failure”. Party spokesman Ad Koppejan said on Wednesday that what should have been a free market with several players competing against incumbent PostNL has ended up as a virtual monopoly.

Companies are increasingly handing the entire management of their vehicle fleets over to outside contractors in order to concentrate on their core businesses, according to a leading industry figure.

The volume of mail order parcels sent via Estonian Post to Europe and Russia last year leapt by 25% compared to 2010. Estonian Post attributed the growth partly to a global rise in e-commerce, greater efficiency and close cooperation between postal operators, supported by the possibility to return ordered goods free of charge.

UPS, the US package delivery company, is set to tell investors on Friday that it is still in talks with its Dutch rival TNT Express about a takeover but has not yet agreed a deal, people familiar with the talks said. UPS has until Friday to update the market under Dutch takeover laws about its progress, after having confirmed in February it had made a revised €9 a share offer. That offer was rejected by TNT but the two sides continued talks.

“Aren’t you supposed to be fighting against us?” Kermit the Frog once asked. FedEx could well be on the other end of the question. The US mail group decided not to join the battle for TNT Express with which rival UPS has finalised details for an acquisition probably at €9.50 a share.

Le 29 novembre 2011 Le Groupe d'entreprises de Postes Canada[1] a annoncé aujourd'hui une perte avant impôt de 163 millions de dollars au cours du troisième trimestre terminé le 1er octobre 2011, ce qui représente une baisse par rapport à la perte avant impôt de 19 millions de dollars enregistrée au cours de la même période de l'exercice précédent. La baisse de la rentabilité du Groupe au cours du trimestre était en grande partie attribuable à une décision défavorable à l'encontre de Postes Canada par la Cour suprême du Canada. À la suite de cette décision, une estimation du coût pour la Société a été enregistrée dans les états financiers du Groupe au troisième trimestre, ce qui a entraîné une baisse de la rentabilité pour le secteur Postes Canada et pour le Groupe. L'incidence finale de cette décision est toujours en cours d'évaluation.

UK’s Post Office Ltd to roll out 6,000 new-style post offices Friday, March 9th, 2012 The UK’s Post Office Ltd has announced plans to roll out thousands of new-style “main” and “local” post office branches across the country from this summer. The plans are to be funded by part of the previously-announced GBP 1.34bn cash injection from the government, and therefore remain subject to “state aid” approval from Europe. It will all kick off with an expansion of the current pilot for the new-style main post offices and slimmed-down local post offices. Some 50 new local and main branches will be trialled from now until the summer, in addition to the 117 new post offices already being piloted. From the summer until 2015, Post Office Ltd then intends to roll out 4,000 main branches and 2,000 local branches among its 11,800-strong network

UK Mail bid to expand healthcare use of hybrid mail service Monday, March 12th, 2012 UK Mail Group has completed a government sector assessment that could see its hybrid mail service, imail, used by UK healthcare trusts. The company said its imail service has completed the Connecting for Health (CFH) Information Government Toolkit assessment, which means it is now officially able to handle sensitive mail for National Health Service trusts.

FedEx Express will be the first company in the world to deploy a new kind of electric-powered step van now being built in the United States. Manufacturer Smith Electric Vehicles Corporation unveiled the production version of its all-electric Smith Newton van today at a truck show in Indianapolis, as it launched full production. The first Newton Step Vans are expected to be deployed in select US markets throughout the remainder of 2012.

Le levier financier devrait diminuer à 2.02x les estimés contre 2.74x pour l’exercice précédent grâce à la hausse de l’EBITDA qui gagne 17% dans le sillage du chiffre d’affaires.

Le titre a dominé la bourse de Toronto en janvier avec une hausse de 25.10%. La consolidation qui s’est engagée entre le support court terme à 16.45 CAD et la résistance à 17.30 CAD pourrait prendre du temps avant d'entamer une nouvelle accélération haussière en direction des plus hauts historiques à 19.6 CAD (datant de 2006).
