The Kid Should See This.
There's just so much science, nature, music, arts, technology, storytelling and assorted good stuff out there that my kids (and maybe your kids) haven't seen. It's most likely not stuff that was made for them...
But we don't underestimate kids around here.
"How do we raise emotionally aware and well-adjusted kids? With lots of talking and sharing, of course. For some kids, digital media can also help by packaging powerful messages inside enticing apps. In one, kids explore how we are the same and how we are different from one another. In another, they interact with silly characters to learn their emotional responses. And in a third, virtual friends share stories to get 'tweens thinking about how to best handle emotionally charged situations. Here's a closer look at these three masterful apps.
Wee You-Things"
Gail Braddock describes e-Learning for Kids as "free e-courses for kids all around the world. This site has engaging and interactive courses for kids in online safety, computer skills such as using Google, typing, and core subjects like language arts, math, and science. Most of the courses are for elementary school-aged children, and involve dynamic avatars, and are highly interactive."
20 Kids * 20 Kites * 20 Minutes
5 stars
Can a classroom of twenty students make twenty kites, and be outside flying them in twenty minutes? You betcha! Uncle Jonathan from the Big Wind Kite Factory on the Hawaiian island of Molokai shares the kid-tested instructions he's been using with tour groups for fifteen years. The kites are folded from 8 ½ x 11 inch paper, so they are smaller than the usual kite, but the simple directions are easy enough for kindergartners, yet fun enough for big kids too!
The "Kindie" (kids and independent music) movement has been evolving for a few years and we certainly didn't invent it. What we hope to do is to provide a platform for musicians from around the world to distribute their craft and to provide parents and kids a safe place to discover new music without resorting to surfing the mass music and video sites.
Online application that helps parents teach money-management to children and also track their allowance. Using Zetfy, parents can set up virtual accounts for their kids and then specify how much allowance they get. The kids can then log in into their accounts and see how much money they have. The application works just like an actual bank account but everything is based on virtual money.

"We're about to give your fourteen-year-old a computer," Michael Allen recently told a group of parents attending a new student orientation, "and here's why it could scare you." Then Allen, the principal of no-textbook New Tech High School, said he understood their biggest fears: the new sites and technologies that crop up all the time, kids multitasking while doing schoolwork, the reality of parents' lack of control over what their kids see and how they behave online.
But for Allen and many like him who are integrating technology in schools, guiding the behaviors that accompany a new way of learning is just as important as the content they'll be covering in school - if not more so. In order to be successful, Allen maintains that students need to learn trust, respect and responsibility for technology. He knows that many of the situations that come up in a school where computers are the only conduit of information must be addressed earlier rather than later, and parents and teachers need to be leading the way."
