My first blog --> introduces meshows tools I like & questions I am grappling with "When I first started teaching and used to imagine how I'd end up, I thought perhaps I'd be helping student teachers learn how to work in the classroom. Now I think that goal may be within reach, but with a different twist, because I'm getting enormous pleasure from helping colleagues -- many near dinosaurs like I almost was -- renew, refresh and re-energize their work -- by letting web-based tools and resources breathe new life into our work.

One of the goals of the Center is to prepare K-12 teachers to integrate technology effectively in their content areas. Each content area represented here includes lesson plans.

The goal of many organizations is to end poverty. We intend to do the same, and we want you to contribute. By testing your knowledge on the map shown above, each correct answer means you will be donating 10 cups of water. We chose water as our primary source of donation, because it is something that all human beings need to survive. And around the world, there are many, too many people who don't have access to clean drinking water; thus causing various illnesses. With your contribution, we may just be one step closer to ending poverty.

Windows to the Universe is a user-friendly learning system covering the Earth and Space sciences for use by the general public. Windows to the Universe has been in development since 1995. Our goal is to build an internet site that includes a rich array of documents, including images, movies, animations, and data sets, that explore the Earth and Space sciences and the historical and cultural ties between science, exploration, and the human experience. Our site is appropriate for use in libraries, museums, schools, homes, and the workplace. Students and teachers may find the site especially helpful in their studying (and teaching!) Earth and Space sciences. Because we have users of all ages, the site is written in three reading levels approximating elementary, middle school and high school reading levels. These levels may be chosen by using the upper button bar of each page of the main site.

Exploration/Tinkering Exploratory play is about asking questions: "What happens when I do this?" "What if I did it this way?" Experimenting with materials and pushing their limits encourages us to consider a wide range of possibilities when problem-solving. Playing around with objects and ideas helps us see that there may be more than one solution. Some inventors have a goal in mind and work persistently toward it. Others stumble across solutions to problems they weren't trying to solve.

Finding quality images and photos for complementing an important article, essay or news report is already a challenge for many. Imagine when the goal is not only to find good images, but also to find some that you could openly and freely use without needing to pay royalties or one-time publishing rights...

The 2008 Digital Media and Learning Competition theme is Participatory Learning. Participatory Learning includes the many ways that learners (of any age) use new technologies to participate in virtual communities where they share ideas, comment upon one another's projects, and plan, design, advance, implement, or simply discuss their goals and ideas together. Good to remember with any mention of Bloom that these are stages before goals. Mastery in one necessitates the next. Bad teachers tend to shoot for the highest and overshoot the others. These are developmental stages that must be passed from one to the next.

Thinking is a process where we have to: * create new connections * look for meaning behind the facts. * analyze in order to understand. These are the goals of SuperThinking!

"The Virtual Valentines Project is designed to teach students geographical awareness and cultural understanding while connecting classrooms all around the world for Valentine's Day. Through this experience, our goal is to circumnavigate the globe with virtual Valentines greetings and cultural exchanges in order to spread a little happiness to children everywhere.  Whether your students are in kindergarten or are seniors in high school, this project will help them learn something new."

Two forces seem to present the most significant obstacle to educators hoping to achieve these illustrious goals for and with their learners. The first is time, the second is "the system". Together these two factors act as a bulwark to change; the constraints within which progress is able to occur but only to the point that it strikes against the seemingly immutable obstacles. 

eLearning tools can make all the difference to most Startups. It offers nascent teams a strong knowledge foundation which helps bind them to common goals and gives them all the tools to help succeed with the company's vision.

There is a great deal that I like about this description of humanity at its best from Ryan & Deci. It is both a goal to be achieved and an indicator of conditions which are required for us to fulfil our potential. While the focus of this statement is on the actions of the individual we can see how society might act to deny individuals the opportunities to lead such an inspired and agentic life. I like to imagine what a school might be like if every individual who plays a part in its functioning strove to extend themselves, master new skills and apply their talents responsibly.  Maybe schools would be like the 'learning organisations' described by Peter Senge. 

It is generally accepted that learning is enhanced by the inclusion of deliberate, reflective practice. Indeed the act of reflecting on the impact that our actions have towards the achievement of any goal (learning oriented or other) is shown to have a positive impact. Reflective practice is defined as the praxis (interdependent and integrated theory, practice, research, thought and action) of individuals or groups to move from 'better thinking to better action' as a result of reflection for, in and on learning (Harvey et al. 2010 p140). With this in mind, it is worth considering what reflective practice might look like and to consider it in a range of contemporary contexts.
