iLoveSchools.com works with teachers, schools and districts, encouraging kids to stay in school while helping them gain a lifelong love for learning. We match America's school teachers with individual, group and corporate donors of new, used or in-kind classroom resources. Donors select the classrooms receiving their donation as well as tell us how much we can use to cover our administrative costs.

This week I spent three days in Brisbane attending the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers' national conference. The theme of the conference was "Why Maths?" and along with 500 other mathematicians, we looked to find inspiring answers to this provocative question beyond the classroom. Here are my key takeaways from this event.

Booktrack Studio - 5 views

  •
Reflection shared by Edudemic - It allows students to create amazing 'book' adventures by adding background music to written pieces - turning reading into a completely new and fun experience. What makes it so innovative is that it allows students to add movie-style soundtracks to their reading selections. All you need to do is go to the BookTrack website and signup for a free classroom edition. You can start reading from a list of books on the bookshelf that have background tracks already embedded. The bookshelf includes popular classroom selections like Romeo and Juliet and Rikki Tikki Tavi. Better yet, students can create their own masterpieces by uploading their written work and adding soundtracks to their projects. Students can then record themselves reading, and in the process, hear where they might need to edit their paper or add details. Adding music will allow them to bring their ideas to life!

In Search Of Answers, Teachers Turn To Clickers : NPR - 0 views

  • More teachers are equipping their classrooms with little keypads — often called clickers — that let students instantly, and anonymously, answer questions. Teachers say the clickers are improving the quality of education by measuring how engaged students are in the material they are learning.
