  • I absolutely blush for your kindness to me. The day before yesterday Mercy sent me your precious letter, and yesterday I received a second. That is indeed passing one's fête day happily. On Tuesday I had a fête which I shall never forget all my life.

Why "open education" matters : JISC - 29 views

  • open education goes across the boundaries of formal and informal, children and adults, across academic disciplines, into professional development and into making and crafting. Universities don’t own the “open education” space any more than any organisation could be said to own “learning”
  • We need to be digitally literate, but more than that, we need to find ways of doing our work online, to become open practitioners and digital scholars
  • For educational institutions to thrive, we need to explore models for how we can work in this space, with all its opportunities and risks, all its noise and vibrancy. It is here that we see possibilities for new models of collaboration, peer learning and accreditation.
  •
"Open education" matters because it's already happening all around us. .. although it may not be mainstream yet, it is very real. The models continue to grow and combine with the ethos of open access and the methods of open source. The choice for us, as individuals and educational organisations, is in how we respond.

Elections and Events 1811-1849 - The Library - 11 views

NOTE: 1849 has information primarily from 1839 except first highlighted yellow section
  • Indirect elections are “in use between 1840 and 1872.  Indirect elections enhanced the political power of the hacendados, because voting districts often coincided directly with the boundaries of haciendas.  The first stage of an indirect election, when voters gathered to choose electors, occurred in the cantones, the administrative sub-units of a municipality.  Cantones often were made up of nothing more than one or two haciendas, giving landowners a clear advantage to control the selection of electores.  Above and beyond all other aspects of the electoral system, the oral vote [in use until 1950] insured the predominance of patron-client relations” (pages 65-66).  Describes process for recording oral votes.  “Throughout the nineteenth century, national politics followed to a great extent the rise and fall of alliances between departmental networks.  For instance, in the mid 1840s San Vicente and San Miguel were allied against Sonsonate and San Salvador” (page 163).
El SalvadorAcronyms1811-18491850-18991900-19341935-19691970-19791980-19891990-19992000-2009More than one electionSources UC San Diego 9500 Gilman Dr. La Jolla,

Share More! Wiki » Anthology/Slide Thinkfinity into the Curriculum with Diigo Slides? - 92 views

  • To plan out my WebSlides above, I followed this process: Wrote a short narrative for the introduction Created a List in Diigo so that I could save my bookmarks to it while bookmarking the web pages I would use. Actually Bookmarked the web pages that I would use, making sure to highlight and add comments about parts I wanted to call attention to, as well as check the box that said ADD TO LIST and choosing the list I wanted to save bookmarks to. Recorded my audio using Audacity (free audio recorder that works on Windows, Mac and GNU/Linux computers) Viewed the MyList page and clicked on WebSlides, then clicked on the preferences to upload my audio. Adjusted the duration of the slides to match my narration. Relaxed and enjoyed the audio narrated WebSlide. Be sure to share your examples of educational Diigo WebSlides!
