Tools for sharing thinking - The Learner's Way - 61 views

Fortunately there are a number of free tools that do these things and they are available for use on any technology platform as they require nothing more than access to the internet. Recently Eric Sheninger used a set of these tools to give his audience at the Hawker Brownlow Conference on Thinking and Learning in Melbourne a voice.

Learnist | Share what you know - 2 views

  •
Everybody knows enough about some topic - be it English, science, yoga or bourbon - to teach other people about it. And every topic is covered by content scattered around the Web. The idea behind a new site called Learnist is to give everybody a spot to teach through curation. The site, which is also available as an app for iPhone and iPad, features user-created lessons that bring together Web pages, videos, Google Books e-books and other items on a specific topic. At the moment, only a relatively small group of people approved by the site - including some teachers - can create these "learnings," but anyone can check them out. Similar to Voicethread, however it has more features to help guide/scaffold discussions around media content. You can embed these discussions into a CMS or blog page as well.

Vialogues (which derives from "video dialogues") is an online discussion platform that permits videos to act as powerful teaching resources and the conversation starters. It provides a space for users to hold meaningful, dynamic time-stamped discussions about videos. Excellent resource for educators and others interested in using popular culture resources of all sorts as conversation starters with students...

This is an amazing site which allows multiple users to collaborate in real time on a multimedia canvas. You can add documents, embedded websites, audio, video, images and more by uploading them or grabbing them from the web. Then just click and drag your content into place. You can invite others to collaborate on your creation and then share or embed on your site. Creativity never looked so simple. http://ictmagic.wikispaces.com/ICT+%26+Web+Tools

Yes this was recently reviewed in a class for teaching ELL's with technology and we discussed the classroom capabilities (NEIU Chicago). It has a lot of potential and many graphic and style to chose from. On this note it was felt by the reviewers of the tool that it would be best used for older students. To have teacher control, the teacher should start each mural and give the group the link so that the teacher can monitor what is being developed by the students. The teacher should have control over the group and monitor content. I would like to see more suggestions regarding this tool.

Ted ed is going to a powerful resource in my classroom

Ted ed is going to be a great tool in helping my students achieve their specified learning goal.  Ted ed will accomplish this by allowing my students to access educational videos from their home, smartphone, or in the computer lab.  This will be so powerful, because of the tools that ted ed supplies the user with think, and dig deeper, and the ability for user created quizzes.  I plan to assign videos for homework and then hold students accountable by tracking their quizzes.

Ted ed is going to shared to motivate my teachers and students. These resources will be infused into the curricular lessons to introduce engaging perspectives on information they're teaching/learning and to ignite creativity.

Free Screen Sharing and Online Meeting Software | Screenleap - 81 views

I like this one but could someone comment on how their experiences was when using it, and what did they use it for. This would be helpful.

Mary Vaughn writes:  Want to share and collaborate across the classroom?  How about across the state or further?  http://www.screenleap.com/ is the perfect tool to do that.  Easy to use, all you have to do is download the java applet and you're ready to share your screen with anyone at anytime.  This works in tandem with apple devices or any device that has internet connection.  Unfortunately, right now it's a one-way deal - you'll have to use a pc or mac to share.  It gives a simple code or website you can share with others to see your screen.  There's a little lagtime but not terribly so.  So, if you have teachers who have data projectors going on the fritz, want to do a PLC with other colleagues, or whatever collaboration you're working with, this could be the perfect tool.  Hint:  use the tabs to open up different websites - you have to keep the original screenleap up and running.
