Mathematical thinking presents teachers and students with new challenges - The Learner'... - 15 views

The shift away from teaching for the rote memorisation of prescribed methods requires teachers to rethink their approach to the discipline. With this new pedagogy comes a need to understand the processes of mathematical thinking in ways not previously required. When we require our students to be able to reason and problem-solve through unique challenges we also require our teachers to have an understanding of the mathematical moves that their learners are likely to call upon.

The Power of Teams - The Learner's Way - 31 views

Sometimes it is worth stating the obvious, giving time and thought to what we easily take for granted. In doing so we name the things we value most and give them the value they deserve. The value of teams is one such ideal, we know that teams have value, we probably even know what it feels like to be a part of a great team but too often we take this feeling as understood and don't stop to consider what makes it worth chasing.

We need to rethink the current timetabling in our schools. Do we need a lesson each day for planing, Assessment and preparation or should we timetable teachers out for the whole day (or most of it) to study or collaborate with colleagues? I love the thought of thinking outside the square and providing true opportunity for productivity.

Interesting read on teacher education reform. I'm not sure if I agree with everything, but the author makes some great points and had some strong suggestions to aid reform.
