QR codes… Disposable fad? Or useful technology? Opinions on whether QR codes are of real value is a hotly debated topic. But regardless of polarized views on the technology, there are some teachers using QR codes in education in some very inventive and exciting ways.

qr codes in educationQR Codes Quick Response are so fun to integrate in classroom. Quick Response codes are bar codes with information. QR Codes can include contact information, websites, text, SMS, pictures and so much more. My students absolutely love using these in their activities.

Using QR Codes this school is able to link students with QR code readers on their smartphones to rich media associated with different curricula.  This is another way these mobile devices are gaining favor as educational devices.

"A supermarket chain in South Korea has come up with a way to allow commuters to do their shopping while they wait for the subway. They hung life size banners along subway walls that recreate supermarket aisles and included QR codes for each item on the virtual shelves that when scanned add the item to the shopper's online cart. When customers check out, the order is placed via the supermarket's website and then delivered to the customer's home later that day." Look at how thinking differently changed the way people shopped for groceries in Korea. As educators, can't we find a way to think this differently too so we can change education...putting the learners at the center.
