A useful site that allows users to dictate and generate text. A great resource for children with writing difficulties to get their ideas written quickly. It works with a range of languages including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese and more. This is a MUST TRY site. It's not often that I'm amazed be an educational resource, but I am with this one. Pora Ora is a stunning educational virtual world for Primary school aged students. Play truely fun educational games which practise skills in English, maths and many other subjects. The graphics and useably is superb. Online safety is at the heart of this site. The parential admin account can set the student's account to free chat with everyone to completely locked down where they have the world to themselves and everything in between. The site has a language filter and users can report any incidents of trouble. Also, the first task requires the user to complete an online safety task. This is a must try site which provides an amazing 3D world which teaches English and maths core skills. Players race against two other randomly chosen online players of a similar level. The questions start out very easy and adapt to the performance of the player. The questions are read out and some are displayed on the screen. The player just clicks on the correct multiple choice answer to increase their speed. There is a download for PCs and Macs as well as apps for iPad and Android. There are teacher accounts which allow you to make logins for lots of children quickly. When there log in students will be asked to design an avatar. Because the resource requires a sizeable download it takes a little time to set up, but because it runs on your local device game play is very smooth and quick. http://ictmagic.wikispaces.com/ICT+%26+Web+Tools

This is an intelligent spelling and grammar checker which sits in the background in Office and your browser until you need it. This a great idea for a project that successfully infuses technology into a language class. Students (aged 13-14) were required to go to an area in Hong Kong and use their 5 senses to describe what they experienced. Their English teachers helped them by taking them on walks around the neighbourhood of our school and getting them to think about what they could see, smell, taste, hear and touch. The students then worked in groups, picked an area they wanted to explore and set off to use their newly heighten senses. They used their phones to digitally record what they came across. Later this work was taken into ICT class where this interactive media rich website was created with the help of their ICT teacher. We hope you enjoy it! Check out the teachers' picks at the bottom.

I particularly liked the "sound" elements that had actual sound! (usually film footage) - that's an example of truly making the experience multimedia and doing something that we couldn't do with earlier technology.
