When talking to people on the internet that you don't know that well, it is important that you sound educated. Making sure you use spell check, and capitalize ketters where they should be capitalized, is important.

Netiquette, a cyber word created by David Chiles, is synonymous with internet etiquette and digital manners. It is the social code of the internet. There are core rules and various other netiquettes. It comes from the combination network and etiquette.

A curriculum for developing digital citizenship and safety while online

"Fully 95% of all teens ages 12-17 are now online and 80% of those online teens are users of social media sites." This important report that just came out November 8, 2011 looks into how studens are using these online sites. "88% of social media-using teens have witnessed other people be mean or cruel on social network sites." -- We have bystanders we need them to speak out. 25% of social media teens have had an experience on a social network site that resulted in a face-to-face argument or confrontation with someone. * 22% have had an experience that ended their friendship with someone. * 13% have had an experience that caused a problem with their parents

I think that this is a very good and useful website. I think that we should adress this problem with cyberbulies and try to stop people from beining or beominng a cyberbullie.

I heard Tina Meier speak at our school yesterday. The mother of Mega Meier, the child who killed herself after an adult pretending to be a teenager on myspace concocted a vicious cyberbullying attack on her, Tina is a powerful, poised speaker. Our local teen resource center brought her in to speak to all of the schools in our area. I highly recommend her as a great speaker. If you're having problems, give her a call.She relaates to the kids in a very non preachy way. This is an important story for students to hear about as well.

Here are some great antibullying resources to share with your school. If you're looking for some fresh ideas, I think there are some good ones here. These are taking from anti bullying week which runs the week of November 14-18 in the UK. It is good to look at resources from different countries on this important topic. We need to mix things up so we don't stay stagnant in our approach.

It is all very well to provide resources to learn about digital citizenship, but the BEST way for students to learn is to actually be online connecting and collaborating with others globally.
