This link is a summary I found for Daniel Pink's book Drive. In chapter one, Pink uses the language algorithmic and heuristic to differentiate types of learning/tasks. These terms are useful ways to frame important elements of PBL learning.

This "How-To Tips and Tools" article by Sara Lev struck me because it demonstrates how PBL can fit any age, even four- and five-year-olds. Her point was that the "driving question" can come from listening to the students and helping them formulate what they want to do in their terms.

Can we overcome racism? That is the driving question of this PBL. I am considering a similar driving question (maybe!), and this PBL offered a solid start for me to better understand PBLs.

Students can use these to collaborate within and between groups on their ideas for the mural. They can also add links to various murals they find inspiring and write about why that is. They can also work together using Google Docs to create a presentation of their idea for school administrators when they are ready for that step.

In the age of standardized testing and with the move toward the Common Core for the majority of states, the driving question for many teachers is: "How can I best prepare my students to meet these demands?"
