While Yammer has made some enterprise traction, most companies that use it are smaller to mid-size businesses versus large enterprises. Most large enterprises with whom I’ve spoken about Yammer express trepidation over the service’s pricing and community model. At the same time, SMBs with whom I have spoken about Yammer don’t seem to have the same security or expense concerns, so Yammer could stay a viable solution for the smaller markets. The introduction of Salesforce Chatter, and the already strong SocialText solution, should knock Yammer out of enterprise consideration.

Salesforce.com yesterday announced its new Salesforce Chatter at Dreamforce 2009. Dubbed as an enterprise collaboration application and social development platform, Salesforce Chatter promises to provide a secure social network within the enterprise, complete with individual profiles, status updates, feeds, applications, as well as integration with existing popular social networks such as Twitter and Facebook.
Profile pictures and timestamps make it easy to see who made a comment and when, and you can direct a comment to someone using an @mention.
frequently requested features to Google spreadsheets over the last few weeks. First, you can now filter spreadsheet data
improved charting in spreadsheets by making it possible to plot non-contiguous data. Multiple chart ranges help you create great charts without rearranging your data.
On the Filters tab under Settings, you'll find that these filters can be edited just like any others. From there, you can also edit your existing filters to avoid having them Smart Labeled or change whether mail in a Smart Label skips your inbox (which you can also do by just clicking on the label, then selecting or unselecting the checkbox in the top right corner).
On a thread with many recipients, contacts are listed in order of who last responded on the thread, who is currently online and available to chat, contacts that whose chat status are set to ‘Busy’, contacts whose chat status are ‘Idle,’ and then contacts who you haven’t yet invited to chat before.
You can also interact with the whole group by using features like:
Start a group chat
Schedule a Google Calendar event with this group
Compose a new email message with all recipients on the thread
Group chat is also linked to email conversation (previously when we added more people into reply-by-chat, it was not longer tied to the conversation thread).
