After January 14, 2011 the issue of equality between men and women rose. Tunisian authorities arrested a comedian and a TV show host for offending President Beji Caid Essebsi. He was arrested for committing an offence against the head of state, a fraud by inappropriately representing themselves as someone else. Tunisia just adopted a new constitution last year that guarantees the right to freedom of conscience and expression. But the statement from Essebisi's office said "freedom of the press and expression are acquisitions the president... is committed to defending, he being its principal guarantor."

Beji Caid Essebsi, 88-year-old former minister from Tunisia's years under dictatorship won the country's first ever democratic vote for president. He became the nation's new head of state with 55 percent of the vote, capping a four-year-long democratic transition.

Although the youth of Tunisia are currently in the employment field, they are neglected in politics. They have to be in the labor force but do not get a say in what happens in the government.

In 2012 there were signs of rebound from the recession in 2011. The GDP increased by 4.8 percent, tourism and FDI started picking up in the first quarter. Exporting for Tunisia would not be as strong because of the recession in Europe. Achieving higher growth will reduce high unemployment. Directors saw a need to support economic activity while safeguarding macroeconomic stability. Directors considered that structural reforms are needed to reorient the Tunisian economy and harness its potential for higher and more inclusive growth.

Earlier this month, the residents of Ben Gardane declared a strike that led to the closure of the border crossing to demand lifting a 30 dinar tax imposed on foreigners crossing into Tunisia from Libya. Saturday Libyan vehicles crossed into Tunisia's border for the first time after the three week protest. According to the Tunisian security officials the protest was ended "swiftly" and "peacefully".

Due to the attack on the Bardo museum last month Tunisia plans to re-establish diplomatic ties with Syria in order to track its citizens who have gone to fight alongside Islamist militants. It is said that some 3,000 Tunisian jihadists are thought to have gone to Syria and Iraq.

Tunisian security forces arrested 21 individuals suspected of being involved in the deadly attack against the Bardo museum. The 21 suspects belong to two terrorist cells and so far 46 suspects have been arrested. The terrorists cells will be charged of being accomplice in the terrorist case through providing weapons and logistics.

The United States will increase military aid to Tunisia and help train its troops. The U.S. government aimed to provide Tunisia with more equipment, weapons and technical support. Tunisian Prime Minister said he wants to enhance their ability to defeat those who threaten the freedom and safety of the nation.

Tunisian government's new draft counterterrorism law would permit extended incommunicado detention, weaken due process guarantees for people charged with terrorism offenses, and allow the death penalty. This bill was sent to parliament on March 26, 2015.

In the west-central part of Tunisia, military forces have killed at least nine militants during an operation carried out in the late hours of Saturday in Gafsa region. Military forces also confiscated arms and explosives from the terrorists. Reports say the militants were members of the so-called Okba Ibn Nafaa Brigade which is believed to be behind the deadly attack on the Bardo Museum in the capital on March 18.

The majority of the youth argue that whether they vote or not Tunisia will not see progress. The youth are choosing to not participate in the election.

Gunmen entered the Tunis museum to take ancient treasures and its tourists hostage. It was a beautiful day filled with tourists from everywhere. Many tourists and locals were killed and injured. Many were just stuck in shock with what was happening and when it was all over. Just when the people thought Tunisia was on the right track some tragic event like this happens and takes the people two steps back on what the government is really doing to protect them. The museum is in a top security place so for these gunmen to get in there with guns and take order scares the people. The prime minister said they may of had help at the security check points they are not for sure but are looking into it. This hurts Tunisia because majority of its economy is based off of beach resorts and foreign visitors.

Jasmine Revolution, popular uprising in Tunisia that protested against corruption, poverty, and political repression and forced Pres. Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali to step down in January 2011. The success of the uprising, which came to be known in the media as the "Jasmine Revolution," inspired a wave of similar protests throughout the Middle East and North Africa.

In a sign of support from European powers, Britain is sending a small number of troops to help defend the Tunisian border from potential ISIS intrusion. Fearing Libya becoming a haven for ISIS, which it is slowly becoming without a stable government, European nations including the UK are preparing to stop ISIS from using Libya as a base for terror operations that could have a direct impact on Europe.
