This source is testimony given by Melanne Verveer, Ambassador-at-large for Global Women's Issues, she gave a statement to the Subcommittees on International Operations and Organizations, Human Rights, Democracy, and Global Women's Issues and Near Eastern and South and Central Asian Affairs of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee called "Woman and the Arab Spring." The discussion based around the status of women in the Arab Spring and how important it was for women to participate in politics and economics. Verveer spoke of the necessity of Egypt to make a new Constitution that clearly outlined the rights of women.

Domestic Violence and Anti-pornography groups around the world have been campaigning against the BDSM, violence against women that is portrayed in the books and movies. Perhaps the movie will not be released because men abuse their wives in India and the government does not women to think they should actually like it.

Nazra, whether it is a real name, pseudonym, or a group of women writing this together, purports to be a twitter account with the agenda of ending #VAW or Violence Against Women. Although a majority of the tweets are in Arabic, some of them are in English, or there are interviews either in English or Arabic with subtitles of the other language.
The BBC News reports that out of 22 countries, women's rights in Egypt is ranked as the worst. The rankings were extremely low because of the issues sexual harassment, high rates of female genital mutilation and a growth in conservative Islamist groups. The survey noted that "discriminatory laws and a spike in trafficking contributed to Egypt's place at the bottom of the ranking."
