eLearn: Feature Article - It's the Pedagogy, Stupid: Lessons from an iPad Lending Program - 1 views

  • The truth is that the iPad is not destined to change the face of education. Nor is it just an expensive toy bought only by Apple fanboys, as some anti-Apple bloggers hyperbolize. It's a tool, like any other, and in the classroom it must always be thought of as being in the service of pedagogy. The pedagogical foundations must be solid, because the tool will achieve no heights the underlying pedagogy will not support

As Fraser mentioned on twitter, just because the iPad is "a tool, like any other" doesn't mean all tools are equal.

Fraser Speirs - Blog - iPad Trials at Oklahoma State - 0 views

  • This puts me in mind of a theme I've been developing in various conversations and presentations over the last few months: that technology, pedagogy and curriculum each have influence on the other. If you're not able to modify your teaching methods or curriculum to take account of new technology, that's a barrier to getting the maximum utilisation out of these devices.

Speaking of Fraser, he has a few comments: This puts me in mind of a theme I've been developing in various conversations and presentations over the last few months: that technology, pedagogy and curriculum each have influence on the other. If you're not able to modify your teaching methods or curriculum to take account of new technology, that's a barrier to getting the maximum utilisation out of these devices.

iPad study released by Oklahoma State University - 0 views

  •
This is from Fall 2010.  One very interesting part of the summary states: "From a faculty perspective, the greatest benefit was having uniform hardware and software available across the class. Said differently, faculty knew all students had access to the same learning tools. This was critical when planning assignments and class activities." Yes, this is exactly what Speirs was talking about in Run What Ya Brung.

SoundNote is the best way to take notes in meetings, lectures, and interviews. It tracks what you type and draw while recording audio, so you'll never worry about missing an important detail. During playback, just tap a word: SoundNote will jump right to the proper time in the audio.

There Are Now More Free Apps For Android Than For The iPhone: Distimo - 0 views

  •
A good break down of app numbers per store.  It's important to note that price is just one consideration in the purchase decision. Also note that when an app is free and supported by ads, you are what's being sold.  It's not bad (or good), it's just important to know.

iPad in every TEACHER'S hand | Opening Doors and Turning On Lights - 2 views

  • 2) Mobile Assessment I have always found it difficult to circulate around my classroom and accurately record assessment of my students at work. Whether I scribbled stuff down in a duo tang, or on a prepared form, I never felt like it worked very well. The other day, as I was working in my Robotics/Technology option, I whipped up a quick Google Form with check boxes and specific criteria I was looking for. That, in addition to video of the students at work, made for easy assessment of their collaborative use of the technology provided to create a robot that could complete the assigned task
