This article, which is authored by a member of the Asia Future Internet Forum, looks at some of the current mobile internet trends, and also addresses some of the potential problems. It gives the author's proposal for an alternative mobile network design. While I don't expect anyone to read all the fine print in this (some of it is IT oriented and somewhat confusing), the big picture is what I find interesting-- people have so much faith and support for mobile internet that they want to develop some sort of international standards for it. People taking initiative such as this will really have a big impact on how the mobile network is shaped in the future!

iPhone for the win!

The article explains how the cell phone is not mainly used for making calls in 2010, but is used to access the Internet.

Video about media convergence. Some information in the video is from PEW reports, but it contains a lot of other interesting statistics. At the end it mentions someone's hypothesis that what technology is in our smartphones now will fit in a blood cell in 25 years.

This article dovetails with the PEW study on internet useage. It gives data of age groups and the change in the amount of time they use online email versus the time they spend on mobile email. As you would think, age 12 to 17 has moved from the web at a very high percentage.

White-space is an addition to wifi which greatly increases bandwidth and range.

A US study has indicated that younger internet users are losing interest in blogging and switching to shorter and more mobile forms of communication.

This paper talks about how mobile devices are helping businesses and the working class but also explains how it is becoming a intusion. We never really dove to deep on how technology sometimes hurts what we are trying to do in society.

I know this week were talking about cell phones and mobile devices and how the internet is used on our phones. I know in my discussion, me and another student were talking about texting and how it was used for the deaf originally. I just thought I'd share this article with the rest of the class.
