For me, and I think a lot of people would agree, social media is a necessary evil. I wouldn't know of events that are taking place, be able to get in touch with classmates, what not. If I didn't have a facebook account.

Agreed. It's not necessarily unhealthy behavior, depending on what they're doing. And either way it's an opportunity for brands.

Foursquare is probably going to fade away but the check-in, in some form another (almost certainly evolved) will probably follow the Gartner Hype Cycle - excitement, "failure" and then long-term entrenchment. "Last year, 68% of Americans using social networks said that none of those networks had an influence on their buying decisions. This year, just 36% said that there was no influence. Now, 47% say Facebook has the greatest impact on purchase behavior(compared to just 24% in 2011)." - any researcher worth their salt knows that people are very bad at predicting their own behavior. I hate seeing research that says "people say they are unlikely to X" because asking them point blank is the worst way to predict it.

This article is talking about how advertising is striving to make brand more human. Social media has been a game changer. But so has the way we advertise. Commercials try to pull on our heart strings first and then introduce us to the product that their selling

I agree in general - I will offer that I've had tons of recruiters and agency folk cold contact me via LinkedIn. I know several people that took jobs after being approached on LI.

Kind of a funny list of pros and cons of social media. Its meant to be serious but a lot of the points completely contradict each other. No seems to be able to decide on on thing.
