This app enables your students to create stories using photos that can be imported from your photo library. Students can also draw pictures directly on the screen, illustrate and include text for their stories. Students can publish and share their stories. Flip through the pages just like a real book. This app is great for creative responses to literature.

Create a play with Puppet Pals - 1 views

  •
Students are able to create, direct, and act out their own stories using this app. I love how you can actually see the stage and the offstage. Students have been able to quickly teach themselves how to use the program with little direction from me. This one has been especially fun for two students to use with headphones and a splitter. I love watching them collaborate together to create a story.

I wanted to come back and let you know that I was able to purchase the Puppet Pals Directors Pass. This app costs 2.99 per iPad (of course, I used the VPP and bought 32 copies for half price). Students can now download different backgroups and characters. The free one only uses the fairy tale set. They love mixing them up and making new stories. However, what I am really excited about and what made me want to spend the money on it -- the students can use the camera on the iPad 2 and take pictures to make their own characters and backgrounds. My idea is that they will take a picture of their traditional science fair board then they will the puppets that will talk about their science fair. Fun app!

A fun, interactive pop-up book with the Red Riding Hood story. Very engaging for all ages. It tells the story and has fun activities for the kids to explore during the story. Can be switched to German, French or Spanish version. Also has Read to Me, Read it Myself or Autoplay modes. My students will read this over and over again.

Scribble Press for Amazing Drawing/Publishing - 0 views

Check this app out. It is really a find, especially for your younger students. It is a drawing app, as well as an app for story writing. Students can create a book of their own or use one of several templates like "If I Were a Rock Star" to write a story. The story pops up and the kids can add words. They can then use the drawing tools to illustrate. The best part is that after the kids publish, their books are turned into eBooks and added to your iBooks library. Voila! Published student work in a snap! (Note: The app requires your iPads to be running ios 5.1)

This is an animation app, but the best thing is that it uses a story arch that the kids have to fill in. On the 'conflict' part of the script, it adds music in the background that sounds like there...

To infinity and beyond with this free book app (Toy Story 3) - 0 views

Disney offers this book app for free and it is a great example of the many features that can be found in an ebook. You can select young reader mode, read to me mode, or record your voice to listen to (great for fluency practice). The best feature of having it read it to you is that it plays your voice over the music which makes it sound very official. There are a few coloring pages and games that students can also look at. Very fun and a big hit with my youngest iPad users (preschool and kindergarten).

Great app to give your students access to up-to-the-minute news stories in a simple format that is easy for them to navigate. Students can browse by category, photos, or video content. Students are able to rate articles using a star system, save favorites and send articles by email, as well as post to Facebook or Twitter.

Doodle away with Doodle Buddy - 1 views

While this may seem like just another drawing app, the students in my library have really enjoyed this one. It is easy to maneuver and gives you lots of options. You can change the type of line you want to draw, how thick the line is, and the color. It also offers many different backgrounds, stamps in two sizes, four fonts, and stencils. I have had young students draw response pictures to stories that we have read in the library and they turned out great. You can email the picture or take a screen shot. You can also turn the sound off and on which is always nice if you don't have headphones.

This app can also be used to create text or drawings that can be imported into other apps. Anything in the camera roll can be chosen as the background for a doodle. When a student completes a doodle, they can save it into their camera roll. My students used this in their Voice Thread presentations. They essentially created their text slides in Doodle Buddy, saved them to the camera roll and then in Voice Thread chose them from the camera role.
