Kindle app for iPad - 0 views

The Kindle app is great for libraries and classroom use. Often times, Amazon will provide books either free or discounted cost and the app really helps ease the expense educators faced when providing reading materials. Students in the library especially like reading additional books from their favorite authors during the lunch periods.

Scrabble for iPad - 0 views

I don't allow gaming during instructional time in my Library Media Center. To curb this, I allow students to use the Scrabble app as a educational gaming tool for use during the student's 'down time'. At first the students groan and complain but eventually they do enjoy the app and the challenge of identifying words that can be used to win the game with a partner.

Twitter for iPad - 0 views

Yes, Twitter is a powerful educational tool that can be used with students. My students use Twitter as a promotional tool for their student news program and to share current event announcements. Please keep in mind, it is very important to have an initial lesson and ongoing conversations with your students about Cyber online behavior. Check it out for yourself - https://twitter.com/PhillipsHSBTP

Mathway helps students solve math problems. The free version will give you answers to your math problems. A paid subscription will provide step by step work and explanations to the problems. My special education math teacher uses this app with her students who struggle finding answers to math problems.

Free Movie of the Day - Brain Pop - 1 views

Brain Pop Movie of the Day / Brain Pop Movie of the Day Espanol Students will enjoy these quick movies of the day clips. The movies that are currently shown as free are usually timely with current events or calendar events (example: Movie about Voting on Election Day). This app provides a great quick activity for students to use and if you get in the habit of checking it, you will find things that relate to your lessons. Brain Pop also offers this site in Spanish. Brian Pop itself is a company that offers subscriptions to their website full of educational activities. I am hopeful that they will get an app similar to Brain Pop, Jr. as I am huge fan of that site. As of now, you would need flash to access their site.
