We built Noteflight because we looked at where software is today, and saw that applications for writing music were stuck in the past. We wanted to accomplish a few important goals: Make it easy to create and share written music online. People who make music -- amateurs and professionals, students and teachers -- want to share that music with others, sooner or later. But most software for working with notated music treats the Internet as an afterthought: it's geared to saving your music on your own computer's hard disk, not to sharing your music with other people. Got Brainy is a vocabulary building site with a twist. Students and teachers can create or view mock-motivational-posters for vocabulary words that often pair ironic or sarcastic images with a word and definition. This site might be best used with an upper-level High School English class studying for standardized tests. However, it can be used for ESL students as well to pair images with new vocabulary words and simple definitions.

The Joan Ganz Cooney Center released new research from the Games and Learning Publishing Council initiative. They conducted a series of video case studies and a national survey, Teacher Attitudes about Digital Games in the Classroom, undertaken in collaboration with and support from BrainPOP®. Each video case study shows an individual teacher who integrates digital games into his or her curriculum in exciting and innovative ways. It is fun to use Flickr to find pictures that people post for others to use. Or use FlickR to post your own albums. Here's a site (Spell with Flickr - http://metaatem.net/words/) where you can have any word spelled with different pictures that have each letter in the word. Wordle is a toy for generating "word clouds" from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you like. free time lapse photography software for a while now and finally found Perios. Perios is a tiny download and very, very simple to use. For my first movie I set the software to record one frame every five seconds but I feel I need to continue experimenting for improved results. Once the software captures all the still pics you have to export them as a movie file. I then added all the credits and music in Movie Maker. Too easy!!! The only hassle I had with the software was trying to get it to work with a webcam. I eventually just stuck with the built in camera in my laptop. Geocaching is a sport/hobby in which you wander about with a GPS and try to find caches, small hidden containers with swag and a logbook inside. One of the first things I looked for in the App Store was a geocaching application that would let me a) look up caches near my present location, b) tell me when I'm getting close, and c) let me log my finds on Geocaching.com

I met with a representative from Turning Technologies today. While many of you may have had the opportunity to use interactive response systems (so-called "clickers"), we're finally moving into the 21st century; now that we have reasonable computing facilities at all of our schools, our goal is to fully utilize them and add interactivity. Thus, these interactive response systems that allow students to answer questions and take surveys in class with their aggregated responses displayed within a PowerPoint presentation or on a standalone unit. The real beauty of Turning's system is its direct integration with PowerPoint (sorry, no OpenOffice integration, although the software can be superimposed over any Mac or Windows software).
