TiddlyWiki - a reusable non-linear personal web notebook - 0 views

  • Welcome to TiddlyWiki, a popular free MicroContent WikiWikiWeb created by JeremyRuston and a busy Community of independent developers. It's written in HTML, CSS and JavaScript to run on any modern browser without needing any ServerSide logic. It allows anyone to create personal SelfContained hypertext documents that can be posted to a WebServer, sent by email or kept on a USB thumb drive to make a WikiOnAStick. Because it doesn't need to be installed and configured it makes a great GuerillaWiki. This is revision 2.4.0 of TiddlyWiki (see recent changes), and is published under an OpenSourceLicense.

The Facebook "video message" spammer worm is making rounds again - 0 views

  •
If you received a Facebook message similar to these: ---------- Hey funny. Between You and a Friend Today at Time/Date Is that you making love?!: Long link to video download web site here ... ---------- or ---------- Hi my friend. Between You and a Friend Today at Time/Date Who and when made this video of you?!!!: Long link to video download web site here ... ---------- DELETE it. Do NOT click the link. If you clicked the link, do NOT download the file! If you downloaded, do NOT click/run the file! If your Facebook profile is suddenly sending spam-like messages to all your friends (similar to those above), please read the instructions for removing the Koobface worm. If the worm is a variant of Koobface.A, there may be instructions and antivirus data files (update, dat file, signature, etc.) or a remover application specific to the variant. Don't panic. There is no good reason to format a hard drive to get rid of a virus. Most antivirus software can do a good job of cleaning up. As this thing relies on an internet connection to propagate, please unplug your network cable. Follow the removal instructions for your operating system, and scan your computer with updated antivirus software. I think any one of the popular antivirus applications (and some spyware progams) will take care of it as long as what you're using has the latest virus definitions/signatures/dat file/updates, etc. W32.Koobface.A http://www.symantec.com/norton/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2008-080315-0217-99 Free stuff here that may help: Browser Security Tests: http://www.pcflank.com AVG Anti-Virus Free: http://free.grisoft.com Ad-Aware Spyware Remover: http://www.lavasoft.com/single/trialpay.php Spybot Search & Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/

Social Bookmarking in Education - 15 views

  •
Many educators just use the favorites menu on their computer either at work or home. But what about when we're at home and need to get to a site we saved at school? This is where social bookmarking comes in! Bookmarking favorite links on the internet is something that can make life easier for us as educators - it means that it's easy to find a really neat site later when looking for it. Putting SOCIAL in Bookmarking The social part of social bookmarking works like this: you can share your links that you've saved through a service like Diigo with anyone else who uses Diigo. You can also use Diigo to see the interesting links that your friends and other people bookmark - this can be extremely useful for a team of teachers who like to share teaching resources. You can even search Diigo to find the many bookmarks that others have saved - it helps sort out the good sites, which is hard to do on most search engines. If a lot of other teachers have saved a link, you know it's at least popular. This article also addresses "What is tagging?" and "How do I use tags?"

Sqworl: A Lightbox for Shared Links - ReadWriteWeb - 1 views

  • Using Sqworl to shorten links does two things: first, it helps you organize a series of links under one short URL, and second, it provides a series of site thumbnails - a lightbox of sorts - so recipients can see what they're getting before they click
  • Even if you don't want to share the links with anyone else, Sqworl is worth trying. With some ingenuity, you could make your personal link management or social bookmarking more visual. Using the combination of Sqworl's collections and thumbnails, you may soon be scanning for links based on visual clues - much like the icons on your desktop.

Mac screencast recording choices (Alex Miller) - 0 views

  •
I've been mulling over doing a screencast so I made a small survey looking for the best choices for Mac screencast apps. This is not a review since I haven't had time to actually try them all out. But if you're looking for what's available and some links to useful reviews, this is a good starting point. Screenflow and Snapz Pro seem to be excellent choices although I had people recommend iShowU and Zing to me as well. I tried iShowU and wasn't too impressed. I tried Screenflow and thought it was pretty amazing.
