Transit access is measured through General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) data collected and created by CNT. In addition to the publicly available GTFS data provided by transit agencies, CNT developed GTFS structured datasets utilizing online transit maps and schedules. In many cases, CNT has directly contacted transit agencies to obtain more specific information on stop locations and schedules. All GTFS data is merged into a proprietary dataset known as AllTransit. A companion online tool facilitates the collection, normalization, and aggregation of GTFS data to analyze fixed-route transit service.

PEC primarily serves homeless families consisting of single mothers and their young children. Many of these families are headed by young mothers with little or no work experience and some history of personal or familial trauma. The work of PEC is to support these families through a complement of social services that are intended to chip away at their barriers to success. Families at PEC are supported through emergency and transitional housing, employment and job training, computer skills development, GED and workplace literacy, as well as case management and counseling services. Through its efforts, PEC enables the families it serves to achieve long-term economic and personal self-sufficiency.

Mayor Buckhorn is moving decisively with an economic development strategy that recognizes that its future as a vibrant, livable and sustainable community depends upon connecting its People, redefining its Places, and igniting Progress. Over the next months, AECOM and Parsons Brinckerhoff, planning and transportation experts, respectively, will work with the city and our community stakeholders and opinion leaders to develop a shared vision and give city leaders an implementable plan of action. San Francisco's policies encourage the design and development of 'Better Streets,' sometimes referred to as 'Complete Streets,' that work for all users. The San Francisco Better Streets Plan, adopted in December 2010, states: Better Streets are designed and built to strike a balance between all users regardless of physical abilities or mode of travel. A Better Street attends to the needs of people first, considering pedestrians, bicyclists, transit, street trees, stormwater management, utilities, and livability as well as vehicular circulation and parking.

There may be something inevitable about the structural changes that have made American manufacturing less central to our economy, but there is nothing inevitable about the waste, pain and human despair in cities that have accompanied that change.
