"Una de la últimas actualizaciones de Windows 10 permite ejecutar Linux y el sistema operativo de Microsoft en un mismo equipo, pero, como ha señalado el arquitecto de CrowdStrike, Alex Ionescu, en la conferencia Black Hat celebrada la semana pasada en Estados Unidos, se han encontrado graves vulnerabilidades que ponen en peligro la seguridad del usuario. "The enterprise tycoon comes up against the open source underdog in our operating system showdown
When most people think of the battle for best operating system, they often think of the continuous struggle between Windows and OSX."

Abstract:
The open-source software operating system Linux is a free-of-charge substitute to proprietary systems like Microsoft Windows. By using a cross-country data set, this paper finds evidence that increased piracy of proprietary software has a negative impact on adoption of desktop versions of Linux. The interpretation of this result is that the availability of pirated versions of Windows leads to fewer individuals installing a Linux operating system on their desktop computers. Thus, in the absence of software piracy, Linux would be a more widely used operating system.

Device drivers are parts of the operating system that facilitate usage of hardware devices via certain programming interface so that software applications can control and operate the devices. As each driver is specific to a particular operating system, you need separate Linux, Windows, or Unix device drivers to enable the use of your device on different computers. "

After a very exciting past two weeks, the merge window for Linux 4.7 is expected to close today. This was an action-packed merge window with a ton of new code being introduced. While I've already written dozens of posts on Phoronix about the changes that got me excited, here's my usual kernel feature overview. Here's a look at what's coming for Linux 4.7."

Writing a resume means knowing your audience. If you try to please everyone, you'll only wind up with an unfocused and disjointed document filled with unconnected work experience and accomplishments."
"In the past two days, Microsoft has released (more accurately, re-released) six patches. Almost all of them have been identified, in the past, as "snooping" or "nagware" patches. One is marked "Important," at least on some PCs, so folks with Automatic Update turned on will get the new versions automatically, potentially wiping out any precautions they've taken before."

The DMCA doesn't just make it illegal for you to circumvent DRM to rip and burn a DVD of 'War Games' or to install a pirated copy of Windows. It also can make it illegal for you to repair or modify things you own.
Public television and radio in the United States have been surprisingly shy about covering the open source movement, but this video by Mike Rugnetta at PBS Digital Studios shows that they may be waking up."

"El uso de Linux en los gobiernos ha sufrido dos duros golpes en una sola semana.
¿Deberían los gobiernos pagar millones de euros por licencias de código privativo?. Mucha gente cree que no, sobre todo cuando existen alternativas abiertas.
La ciudad alemana de Múnich y el gobierno de Brasil eran dos referencias de lo que se podía hacer adoptando el software libre; sin embargo, eso parece que está a punto de terminar.
Múnich, la ciudad linuxera que está tentando el cambio a Windows ..."

When I read that the Takoma Park Maryland Library has 28 workstations running Linux, I literally couldn't believe it. Really? A library offering the public Linux? Whenever I go to a library, all I ever see are Windows machines or maybe a Mac or two. When I mention Linux as an alternative, and I sometimes do, I'm usually met with blank stares and the staff begins to think I'm nuts."
