Press Pause Play - 0 views

  •
A new generation of global creators and artists is emerging, equipped with other points of reference and other tools. The teachers arenʼt certified schools anymore - itʼs web sites, discussion forums and a "learn by doing"-mentality. We see the children of a digital age, unspoiled or uneducated depending on who you ask. Collaboration over hierarchy, digital over analog - a change in the way we produce, distribute and consume creative works. PressPausePlay is the first film to capture this new ecosystem. We meet the creatives at the frontier of production, the technical enablers of collaboration and distribution, the artists, the pop stars, the film makers, the business men, the visionaries and the ones left behind. Itʼs a story from the smallest molecule to the largest corporation. Itʼs a snapshot of today, but at the same time predictions of a near future. Weʼre not creating a documentary in the classical sense of shaky cameras, bad lighting and unbearable sound. Although we have a small budget, we've got big aspirations. The film will in itself be a proof of the evolution story weʼre telling, shot in digital 4K and finished in the beginning of 2011. Ready for both the big (cinema) and the small (mobile) screen. We will release rough edits and interviews as well as the final film free for anyone to use, broadcast and distribute. PressPausePlay will be an observation, a testimony and a tribute.

How Artificial Intelligence (AI) Will Change Magento eCommerce stores - TI Technologies - 0 views

  •
As digital transactions become the definitive method of purchasing goods and services, leading eCommerce firms are exploring how AI can enhance brand competitiveness and customer loyalty. Artificial Intelligence is set to be a game-changer to shape the next stage of the e-commerce evolution. Artificial intelligence provides passel of opportunities to the e-commerce industry where retailers compete to provide the maximum customer convenience, by providing the ultimate shopping experience. With continuous advances in digital voice technology, AI tools such as Alexa, Cortana, and Watson, are gracing headlines almost daily, hinting at the wide scope of opportunities it has to revolutionize eCommerce stores. Here we show 6 amazing applications to use Artificial Intelligence in eCommerce. * Create customer-centric search- By implementing Artificial intelligence in Magento creates purchase assistants that target the right users, with the right messages at the right time.AI programs can rely on self-learning algorithms to deconstruct Bigdata of thousands of customers and create targeted user experiences, hence ruling out any human-bias or error. * Context-based search- Product Search functionality is an integral part of a Magento store as the shopping process begins with the search for relevant products. If Magento individualizes some impressive extensions, they might be nothing as compared to the effectiveness of AI-powered searches. Here usual searches rely on the Keywords entered by the user and only when there is a correct match, your searches will dish out the right search results. But AI-powered product searches will look for the context of the search, utilize the capability of Natural Language Process to generate context-based search terms rather than typical keywords. * Facilitate Purchase Decisions- Purchase Assistants are something that is still not fully released. Using the concept of virtual Purchase assistant we can cut down the time spent by shoppers

Suspicion resides in two regions of the brain: Our baseline level of distrust is distinct and separable from our inborn lie detector - 0 views

  •
""We wondered how individuals assess the credibility of other people in simple social interactions," said Read Montague, director of the Human Neuroimaging Laboratory and the Computational Psychiatry Unit at the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, who led the study. "We found a strong correlation between the amygdala and a baseline level of distrust, which may be based on a person's beliefs about the trustworthiness of other people in general, his or her emotional state, and the situation at hand"

Getting Rich off Those Who Work for Free - By Justin Fox at TIME (printout) - 0 views

  • Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007 Getting Rich off Those Who Work for Free By Justin Fox
  • "The question for the past decade was, Is this real?" says Yale law professor Yochai Benkler. "The question for the next half-decade is, How do you make this damned thing work?" Benkler is a leading prophet of today's gift economy
  • he proposed in his 1902 book, Mutual Aid: A Factor of Evolution, that the survival of animal species and much of human progress depended on the tendency to help others.
  • ...8 more annotations...
  • Open-source, volunteer-created computer software like the Linux operating system and the Firefox Web browser have also established themselves as significant and lasting economic realities.
  • That's not true yet in the worlds of science, news and entertainment: we're still figuring out what the role of volunteers will be, but that it will be much bigger than in the past seems obvious.
  • It might seem very odd to look to a long-dead Russian anarchist for business advice. But Peter Kropotkin's big idea--that there are important human motivations beyond what he called "reckless individualism"--is very relevant these days. That's because one of the most interesting questions in business has become how much work people will do for free.
  • ut neither does Benkler dream of a world without capitalism. Instead, he has become an unlikely business guru, with a shop at the intersection of Commerce and Cooperation.
  • Take the case Benkler makes in his 2006 book, The Wealth of Networks (available, free, at www.benkler.org) for the economic benefits of "peer production" of software and other information products
  • Peer production by people who donate small or large quantities of their time and expertise isn't necessarily great at generating the original and the unique, but it's very good for improving existing products (like software) and bringing together dispersed information (Wikipedia). Often better, in Benkler's telling, than corporations armed with copyright and patent laws.
  • Clever entrepreneurs and even established companies can profit from this volunteerism--but only if they don't get too greedy. The key, Benkler says, is "managing the marriage of money and nonmoney without making nonmoney feel like a sucker."
  • In other fields, it's not so clear. In a critique of Benkler's work last summer, business writer Nicholas Carr speculated that Web 2.0 media sites like Digg, Flickr and YouTube are able to rely on volunteer contributions simply because a market has yet to emerge to price this "new kind of labor." He and Benkler then entered into what has come to be widely known in Web circles as the "Carr-Benkler wager": a bet on whether, by 2011, such sites will be driven primarily by volunteers or by professionals.

Mobile Opportunity: A quick history of software platforms: How we got here, and where we're going - 1 views

  • where we're going
  • software with APIs that third party developers can write apps on top of
  • grow a tech business more quickly if you get third party developers
  • ...38 more annotations...
  • lessons about where the industry might go
  • Fair warning: this is a long post.
  • In 1969, the Justice Department, ADR, and several others filed antitrust suits
  • IBM agreed to stop bundling free software
  • disaggregation is a natural outcome
  • multiple companies can move faster
  • Although the metaplatform isn't necessarily elegant
  • The OS is dissolving into a soup of resources distributed across both the network and the local device, with the application in the middle calling on both
  • The most effective mobile application are
  • hybrids of local and network resources
  • gradual evolution of a super-OS that includes both the network and the device
  • we don't have a name for this new thing
  • trouble talking about it
  • I'm calling it the "metaplatform"
  • backlog of potential creativity
  • what it lacks in beauty it more than makes up for in rate of change and versatility
  • compatibility
  • what happens if that company goes out of business or just decides to stop maintaining the product?
  • If you've incorporated external web services into your site, the site will break if any of those services stops working
  • We don't have any systematic ways to deal with problems like these
  • a business opportunity for the next crop of software entrepreneurs
  • What the metaplatform means
  • Much of the discussion in this post is pretty theoretical
  • practical implications
  • iPhone today gives (in my opinion) the best overall mobile browsing and app discovery experience
  • APIs that will enable other developers to extend
  • implementation is often off-target
  • trying to make their APIs into the business equivalent of an operating system
  • private ecosystem
  • opening the application outward
  • mixed and matched with other functionality in the metaplatform
  • export data isn’t enough... what springs to mind is open source
  • Lots to think about
  • Clayton Christensen
  • technological advances always lead to value chain fragmentation
  • a framework to predict where most profits will be made
  • HTML5
  • changes that are brewing in the mobile industry
