Identifying what our children need to learn is one of the most important processes within education. For the teacher this is the question they engage with as they design their teaching and learning units. By no means is this an easy task and the teacher must balance multiple factors to ensure that the programmes they design provide their students with the learning they require. Even the most effective sequence of lessons is of little value if what it sets out to teach has little importance in the lives our learners are likely to lead.

At the start of each year we arrive back from our break hopefully rested and energised. SMILEY - Social Mindedness in Learning Community is project funded within the domain of Lifelong Learning Programme in Europe. The aim of SMILEY is to implement awareness‐raising program in schools realizing the specific course facing the most current social topics. It helps teachers to deal with the social problem issues, such as bullying and to face possible students' violent attitudes through enjoyable online ERPG (Edu Role‐playing Game) developed according the pupils' social awareness. With one term down now is the perfect time to look back and identify what has worked and suggest some areas for growth ahead of Term Two. It has undoubtedly been a busy time but in the midst of that have emerged ideas that have really worked and our new programmes have had the desired impact in getting the students started. So in no particular order here are my reflections for term one 2015.

CREST is a programme for schools run by Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation that aims to promote Creativity. By adding creativity to our science lessons we can move past boiling water and encourage students towards serious scientific and technological discovery.
