All Change the Web Conversation Transcripts - Facebook, Mozilla, Convio Open, iPhone, T... - 0 views

  • As part of Social Actions' Change the Web Challenge we were excited to host the "Change the Web Conversation Series," open online chats to discuss how to use specific technology platforms for good. We invited a number of 'rock star' featured guests & moderators and our amazing community to ask questions, share examples & ideas, and in general rock the the discussions! Most all the chats occurred in the chat client Meebo (except for the Twitter chat - which was held on Twitter!) - and you can find the transcripts below!

Why Teachers Should 'Friend' Students Online - Murry's World - 0 views

  • It is NOT Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, YouTube, or any other online community that is the problem. It is the people who are out of touch with today's youth.
  • All I can say is AMEN! I blogged about this last year, as a matter of fact, because it ticks me off that we would have all of this great technology, but NOT use it for expanded educational opportunities that we might not have otherwise had. I love extended the teachable moment beyond the "year" that I'm given with a set of students. Just because they've come and gone doesn't mean my responsibility to continue to teach them if the opportunity presents itself is over. I am a teacher. Not from 7:30 to 2:30. Not just on the weekdays. Not just in my classroom. I am a teacher ALL. OF. THE. TIME. Wherever I am, whatever I'm doing, whether physical or virtual. We should be more worried about the teachers (and critics) who aren't nearly so well connected
  • "teachers should have have relations with students, not a relationship."

How to: survive teacher training by @NQTBlogger101 - UKEdChat.com - 0 views

  •
I tried to think of a different way of titling this post, I wasn't keen on the word 'surviving' but the more I thought about it, the more I realised that actually, you really do feel like you're surviving… Just about. I've been onto Twitter, Instagram and even scrolled through my personal Facebook a few times to discover that Teacher Training Nerves are setting in. Now, I know you've probably (definitely) heard some complete horror stories but let's begin with an open mind. Having just completed the PGCE, I totally understand why you are so nervy and that is why I've created this post… So, sit back, take a deep breath and repeat "I can do this"...

Anti-Social - Mac/OS X Social Networking Block Software - 8 views

  •
Anti-Social is a neat little productivity application for Macs that turns off the social parts of the internet. When Anti-Social is running, you're locked away from hundreds of distracting social media sites, including Facebook, Twitter and other sites you specify. With Anti-Social, you'll be amazed how much work you get done when you turn off your friends.

Does Size Matter in Social Networking or is it How you Use It - 0 views

When using social networks for business is it good to have tens of thousands of friends on Facebook? Should you be following as many people as possible on Twitter? Do you need to connect with every single person you meet on Linked In?

Connected, not just online. | Philadelphia Inquirer | 01/03/2010 - 18 views

Facebook. Twitter. MySpace. Cell phones. Blogs. Time thieves, all of them. Or at least that's how they've sometimes been portrayed in news media, common lore, and even the occasional scholarly study. Social media just add to the Great American Isolation, right? Not so, says a study from the Pew Internet and American Life Project.
