      Good comment by Will Richardson
  • our ability to access people (potential teachers) and content (curriculum) on our own and, importantly, share the artifacts of that self-directed learning with others is having as much if not a greater effect on "how we learn" than the digital content providers who are really just repackaging a traditional education online.

Employers are expressing increasing dissatisfaction with the ability of college graduates to access, evaluate, and communicate information; to use information technology (IT) tools effectively; and to work well within groups across cultural lines. A change of instructional paradigms--from passive to active (authentic) learning strategies, such as project-based learning, problem-based learning, or inquiry-based learning--is clearly needed.

Straight from the DOE: Dispelling Myths About Blocked Sites | MindShift - 0 views

  • To clear up some of the confusion around these comments and assertions, I went straight to the top: the Department of Education’s Director of Education Technology, Karen Cator.
  • Accessing YouTube is not violating CIPA rules.
  • Websites don’t have to be blocked for teachers.
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • Broad filters are not helpful
  • chools will not lose E-rate funding by unblocking appropriate sites
  • Kids need to be taught how to be responsible digital citizens.

The Importance of Digital Citizenship in Social Media | Edutopia - 37 views

  • The best offense always begins with a solid defense. This is true in sports and is directly applicable to responsible use of classroom technology and social media. In my last post I encouraged educators to "Just Get Out There," but in this post I am pulling back on the reins a bit. While we want our students to get out there and use new and emerging technologies, we need to give them the fundamentals to play the best defense. Educate, before you integrate.

Beyond consumer based ICT - The Learner's Way - 12 views

  •
There is a change taking place in how schools approach ICT, one that has been coming for some time but is at the point of moving into the mainstream. A subtle but powerful shift that sees ICT build connections with the Maker Movement as a tool for solving what Bronwyn Moreton speaking at the ICT Educators of NSW conference describes as the 'I wish it would . . .' moment where a learner discovers that their technology doesn't do everything they wished it would.

The Vested Interests in EdTech by @MrMcKavanaghRE - 0 views

Either it's the case that everyone is talking about Educational Technology (EdTech) at the moment, or it is true that you 'trap' yourself in bubbles of your own interest. Whilst either could be true, from conversations that I've either had in the staffroom or online, there is a real trend towards talking about which apps/websites/other pieces of cool kit you can use in the classroom in enhance or benefit the learning that is taking place...

The best app for teachers and educators - 0 views

  •
Chronicle Cloud is the cloud-based class management system and a digital grade book designed with the simple thought of using technology and integrating teaching tasks, allowing teachers to focus on their passion for teaching. CC is one of the best cloud-based class management apps that helps teachers in note-taking, giving student feedback, taking formative assessments, and using multimedia for making teaching engaging. During the pandemic, it also helped teachers organize frequent individual meetings and interactions with students and the parents via the "Chronicle Cloud Parents App

Screenpresso Looks Promising for Screen Captures - 1 views

  •
Screenpresso is a new screen capture program for Windows. Screenpresso has all of the features such as image resizing, annotation options, and format variety that you would expect from a screen capture program. Screenpresso also features like Twitter integration which are not always found in screen capture programs. The most unique option in Screenpresso is the ability to stitch together multiple screen captures. Stitching allows you to include scrolling in your screen captures. The scrolling option could be very useful for showing people how to work through a large page that doesn't fit into a typical screen capture. For example all of the front page of Free Technology for Teachers doesn't fit into a typical screen capture. Using Screenpresso you could create a screen capture of the entire front page. Applications for Education Screen captures, particularly annotated screen captures, can be very useful for giving directions to students and colleagues about how to use a piece of software or how to navigate a website. Using Screenpresso you can make annotated screen captures then post them to Twitter, email them, or post them on your blog or wiki.

Digital Advice for School Leaders . . . - The Tempered Radical - 0 views

  • In the end, driving change in schools means remembering that technology alone isn't revolutionary.  Technology just makes it possible for teachers and students to do revolutionary things.  Our choices about technology need to start and end with our beliefs about learning. Forgetting to put learning first in ANY conversation about education is a recipe for failure.
