The Wikimedia Foundation, Wikieducator and Kaltura have partnered in order to bring rich media collaboration to Wikipedia, WikiEducator, other Wikimedia projects, and any Wiki using the MediaWiki software. With the launch of this joint venture, users are invited to test new functionality that will enable Wiki pages to include collaboratively created video, audio, animation, and slideshows as well as text and images. The focal point for this project is How I Spent My Summer Vacation by Mark Teague. Participating classrooms can write their own summer vacation adventure story or calculate the miles traveled during their vacation. Both activities will be shared via the Internet. Project begins August 31st.

It's a video creation platform where users shoot up to 16 seconds of video on their mobile device and mix it up collaboratively online into a feature film of up to an hour in length. "Three years ago, Edge collaborated with The Serpentine Gallery in London in a program of "table-top experiments" as part of the Serpentine's Experiment Marathon . This live event was featured along with the Edge/Serpentine collaboration: "What Is Your Formula? Your Equation? Your Algorithm? Formulae For the 21st Century." Hans Ulrich Obrist, curator of the Serpentine, invited Edge to collaborate in his latest project, The Serpentine Map Marathon, produced in conjunction with DLD (Digital - Life - Design) Saturday and Sunday, 16 - 17 October, at Royal Geographical Society, 1 Kensington Gore, London SW7 2AR (Map). The multi-dimensional Map Marathon features non-stop live presentations by over 50 artists, poets, writers, philosophers, scholars, musicians, architects, designers and scientists. The two-day event takes place in London during Frieze Art Fair week."

New Tech incoporates three key concepts. First they promote "a new instructional approach that engages learners". New Tech incorporates project-based learning (PBL) as the center of the instructional approach. PBL is facilitated by technology and student inquiry to engage learners with issues and questions that are relevant. Teachers design rigorous projects tied to state standards and customized to local community and student interests. Students collaborate in teams to acquire and apply knowledge and skills to solve problems. Next, " New Tech builds "a culture that empowers students and teachers". It is trust, respect, and responsibility that become the center of the learning culture. Students are put in charge of their own learning, becoming self-directed learners, while teachers are given the administrative support and resources to assist students in this realization. Last, New Tech maintains that "integrated use of technology" is essential for 21st Century education

Gladys Gahona and Nellie Deutsch have been collaborating online at WikiEducator, an international community dedicated to the design, development, and delivery of free content for learning. In this seminar they will introduce us to the many opportunities available to educators to learn from others, to collaborate on curriculum projects, and to explore new technologies that will improve educational access and quality.

"... The project described in this digest was designed with the belief that teacher professional growth can best be fostered through sustained collaborative inquiry between teachers and researchers. It has set out to incorporate what is known about quality professional development with the special features necessary for meeting the needs of English language learners. The project has defined a model of sheltered instruction based on the research of best practices, as well as on the experiences of the participating teachers and researchers..." (¶1).

This free project has classrooms using three pumpkins - students will first make estimates and then take various measurements of each pumpkin. They will then count the seeds contained within each pumpkin. All data, other than estimates, will be posted via a GoogleDoc. As pumpkin data begins to be uploaded, classes can begin analyzing the data shared by all.

For me, Google Docs has been a stand-out winner for collaborative efforts. In some instances, it  is for projects where team members are spread far and wide - from Adelaide to Malaysia and back again. For other times, it's the desk next door, but it's happening in the final hours of a deadline. Either way, Google Docs somehow makes this work.

I'm hugely excited by this site. Make collaborative videos in your web browser with this amazing site. Just upload your images, videos and audio and invite others users to edit your project with you. As the files are stored online your students can access the project from home or at school. This free project has students sharing their December Traditions. Students will create either a digital or paper/pencil representation of a December tradition their family celebrates. Using a Web 2.0 tool, students can add a verbal component to their drawing and then publish their work to share other students around the world. Finally, students and teachers will have the opportunity to view and comment on the work of other students.

This is in incredible resource and opportunity. Great for collaboration with Digital Media Class and content area subject. I also like the advocacy and "pass it forward" requirements.

How to Turn a Teenager Into a Global Citizen 1. Provide professionally-shot conflict-zone footage free of charge to high school and college students in the USA and across the globe. 2. Support the students in creating documentaries, shorts, and public service announcements that demonstrate understanding and empathy with their subjects. 3. Provide forums for students to collaborate with other participating schools and receive peer/expert feedback on their projects and ideas. 4. Encourage the students to showcase their projects in a variety of forums in order to practice their leadership skills and create a broader public understanding on issues of global significance
