This tsunami is one of the most powerful earth has ever seen ever since the past tsunami on Thailand over 5 years ago. The Great Hakuho Earthquake was the first recorded tsunami in Japan. It hit in Japan on November 29, 684. It has been estimated to be a magnitude 8.4

Residents have been ordered to high ground and stay away from the coast as tsunamis can strike in several waves. Seismologists say the quake was 160 times more powerful than the one that devastated Christchurch last month.

The tsunami caused a number of nuclear accidents, primarily the ongoing level 7 meltdowns at three reactors in the Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant complex, and the associated evacuation zones affecting hundreds of thousands of residents. Many electrical generators were taken down, and at least three nuclear reactors suffered explosions due to hydrogen gas that had built up within their outer containment buildings after cooling system failure.
