    EMI is an international scientific organization started in 1998 and established as a non-stock, non-profit organization in the Philippines in 2003. Its mission is to advance policy, knowledge and practice of urban Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). In 2005, EMI was accredited by UNDP as an Implementing Agency for the UNDP/BCPR urban disaster risk reduction program. At the same time, the organization also became a part of the U.N. Task Force for Disaster Reduction. Since 2007, EMI has been a member of the UN Global Platform for Disaster Reduction (GPDRR)

    The IRP was conceived at the World Conference on Disaster Reduction (WCDR) in Kobe, Hyogo, Japan in Jan2005. As a thematic platform of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) system, IRP is a key pillar for the implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) 2005-2015: Building the Resilience of Nations and Communities to Disasters, a global plan for disaster risk reduction for the decade adopted by 168 governments at the WCDR. The key role of IRP is to identify gaps and constraints experienced in post disaster recovery and to serve as a catalyst for the development of tools, resources, and capacity for resilient recovery.     The Index for Risk Management (InfoRM) initiative began in October 2012 as a convergence of interests of United Nations agencies, humanitarian donors and the European Commission to establish a common evidence-base for global humanitarian risk analysis. A concept was developed by a core group of agencies and presented publicly at the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in May 2013. The aim of the initiative is to publish and manage a humanitarian risk index as an open resource for use by actors engaged in resilience, emergency preparedness, disaster management and humanitarian response.
