What about the issue of suffering? Does this prove that there is no God and that we are on our own? * EffectiveEvangelism.com at ChristianAnswers.Net - 0 views

  • The issue of suffering is not something the Christian should avoid. It is glaring evidence that man has rejected God; all is not well on board the flight. It works for our cause, not against it. All these things, pain, disease, droughts, tornadoes, earthquakes, etc. should cause the thinking person to investigate the claims of the note of God's Word, and see its explanation.
  • However, the ultimate convincing agent is, of course, the unbending Law of God. It is the knowledge of the Law and the fearful consequences of transgressing its precepts that should cause fear to kick in, and hopefully common sense should then cause the sinner to seek after the Savior, who lovingly died and rose again, so that they might be saved.

The Church Worldwide | Operation World - 0 views

  • The unprecedented harvest of new believers continues across Africa, Asia and Latin America, in contrast to the relative stagnation or decline in the rest of the world.
  • Christians living and fellowshipping in every country on earth. World mission, globalization and high migration rates have dispersed the Church into every corner of the world, both to previously unevangelized areas and back to traditionally Christian regions where the Church is in sharp decline.
  • hundreds of millions heard the good news for the first time in the past century. It is also an indication that the missionary efforts of the past 200 years have borne incredible fruit, though at times it was slow in coming. Years and generations of prayer and faithful service to the unevangelized world by both missionaries and indigenous Christians have not been in vain.

How Narratives Can Prepare Hearts for the Gospel - 0 views

  • Stories can get past "watchful dragons"; that is, they can penetrate the resistance put up by rationalized bad behavior; they can pierce the heart and gain a hearing even when ears might otherwise be dull.
  • At times, she embodies the approach of the prophet Nathan, who was assigned to deliver God's message to David after he had committed adultery and murder. It was story that breached the barrier, penetrated the heart, and led to David's repentance.

Good point made here by Justin Martyr regarding nan's inate ability to chloose regarding good and evil...
  • ustin Martyr said, “Let some suppose, from what has been said by us, that we say that whatever occurs happens by a fatal necessity, because it is foretold as known beforehand, this too we explain. We have learned from the prophets, and we hold it to be true, that punishments, chastisements, and good rewards, are rendered according to the merit of each man’s actions. Now, if this is not so, but all things happen by fate, then neither is anything at all in our own power. For if it is predetermined that this man will be good, and this other man will be evil, neither is the first one meritorious nor the latter man to be blamed. And again, unless the human race has the power of avoiding evil and choosing good by free choice, they are not accountable for their actions.”[13]

How do you balance it all? Balancing family, ministry and work | Tentmaking Ideas - 0 views

  • setting goals & priorities. Every so often, I sit down and plan out my goals for the next few months. I try to seek the Lord for what He wants me to do and I write those things down. Once I have chosen the most important goals, I begin to break those goals down into bite size tasks. I schedule each task on my calendar and start with those tasks each day. I try not to open email until I have completed my most important tasks for the day.
  • “Just say NO” and “Just DO it”
  • Adjust your schedule As I mentioned above, spending time with family is very important, however, we also must be careful not to miss out on key visiting times with locals.

  • Plan in your non-negotiables A young parent asked me the other day how I made time for my family in the midst of my business schedule. I said, “I know I need to get better at this, but I schedule it into my week. Each week my wife and I have a date night! I try to plan in my “play time” with my kids.” I have realized that we spend time doing what is important to us. If we really love our family, we need to choose to spend quality time with them. Now, I am not talking about taking time out of your normal work week, but instead planning in time afterwork or in the evenings to be with the family. I know one guy who when people asked if he was free any time between 5 pm – 7pm, he answered that he was doing discipleship and was unavailable. He was spending that time training his kids in the ways the should go. If you want to learn language, you will need to plan in your language learning times. If you think that they will just happen, I guarantee that something else will pop up and take their place.
  • Back to the basics – laying a solid foundation! Over the past years of doing ministry in creative access countries, I have found that the real key to a balanced life is abiding in Jesus. If we can spend time quality time with Jesus each and every day, we begin to hear his voice and listen to his heart. Without knowing what HE wants us to do each day, we end up chasing our manmade strategies and plans. Start taking time each and ever day (lavished time) to just listen and learn from Jesus.

PWM - Homo Nexus - 0 views

  • Could they be “changed” so that they are no longer created in the image of God?
    • Adam Skinner

All of his further statements in this paragraph are hinged on the veracity of this speculation.
  • Homo nexus will never exist! Mankind will never evolve into a higher lifeform! For macro-evolution only takes place in the minds of those who have rejected God!
    • Adam Skinner

This is a mischaracterization. Macroevolution, or "evolution as a theory of origins", is a different concept than one species changing into another over time.
  • Cross-breading was attempted in the Bible
    • Adam Skinner

Referenced here is the (plausible) theory that the Nephilim were angelic crossbreeds. I'm not sure if they were ontologically different from humanity at that point insofar as their relationship to God and his expectations from them are concerned.

misinterpreation to support the argument. "lionlike men" just means mighty warriors. cf: http://jfb.biblecommenter.com/1_chronicles/11.htm et al
  • every hand six fingers
    • Adam Skinner

Six fingered men are post-human? This does not support the argument.
  • Being converted into a transhuman no longer bearing God's image is the real hazard of re-engineering the human race!
    • Adam Skinner

"no longer bearing God's image"? So we bear the image of God in our genetic code? Is that it? Is that interpretation even within the pale of orthodoxy? If we lose this image when we "add superhuman capabilities" due to genetic changes, why is it that these images are not lost when genetic mutations naturally occur (eg "genetic disorders")? They both stray from the path of the "image" of the genetic code, supposedly perfect and complete in Adam. I don't buy this argument.
  • But to give up the physical image is eternally damning, with no chance of salvation!
    • Adam Skinner

This assertion is a fabrication, and unsubstantiated by scripture.
  • Noah and his family were spared. Why? They were perfect in their generations (Gen 6:9). They were fully human.
    • Adam Skinner

misinterpreation. If Noah was spared because he was "fully human", why weren't the other fully human people on earth spared? Is that really the rationale that scripture gives? I don't think so. "blameless in his generation", "a righteous man" seems a more correct interpretation.
