A number of polyhedra made in various materials are known from the Roman world. They may have been used in conjunction with with an oracle inscribed on a pillar set up in a public place. The polyhedron was thrown in order to choose a letter at random. One consulted the inscription to find the matching letter and read the oracle's response. There would be twenty oracular messages, each beginning with a letter of the alphabet that corresponds to one side of the dice.

The information on each inscription features an image, the Latin text, an English translation, audio files with the recordings of Latin and English texts, some general information on the chronology and archaeological context, and - as appropriate - some general comment on the historical significance of the inscription. The material is broadly divided into three categories: building inscriptions, altars, and tombstones. The material is ordered according to difficulty and the seminar ends with the discussion of some problematic case-studies from each category.

The Odyssey is an ancient Greek epic poem attributed to Homer. It centres on the Greek hero Odysseus and his long journey home after the fall of Troy. It takes Odysseus ten years to return from Troy to his home island of Ithaca. This map tale describes Odysseus's epic voyage and the many foes he meets upon the way. Scholars, both ancient and modern, are divided as to whether or not any of the places visited by Odysseus are real, even so the locations shown in this tale give a good sense of Odysseus's journey around the Peloponnese and the Ionian Islands.

This video presents views of a 3D digital model of the Greek philosopher Epicurus (341-270 BCE). The lost original statue was erected in Athens. We have many Roman copies of the head and also several headless torsos. This model was based on scans of: (1) a bust from Herculaneum in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples; and (2) the torso in the National Archaeological Museum of Florence.
