The investigators in this study sponsored by the University of Michigan are working on a tool to help people who are severely paralyzed. This tool is called a brain-computer interface (BCI). BCIs can connect to computers or other electronic devices, such as a power wheelchair. In
this study, patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) will be able to control the tilt feature of their power wheelchair using only brainwaves, allowing for independent control.

The LDA Rearch Committee works to find causing of Learning Disability. The LDA provides a knowledgeable interface between LDA membership and the medical and scientific communities. The Committee monitors scientific and medical literature, research grants, diagnostic methods and biological causes related to learning disabilities. The Committee brings salient information and scientific contribution to the LDA Directors and membership. The Committee also takes LDA concerns and goals which support research and regulations related to the causes of learning disabilities to the scientific community and to federal agencies and members of congress.
"The purpose of this study is to obtain preliminary device safety information and demonstrate proof of principle (feasibility of efficacy) of the ability of people with tetraplegia to control a computer cursor and other assistive devices with their thoughts."
