This is a terrific post. I really think that if you have concerns about the standards, that's definitely O.K. Your voice needs to be a part of the conversation. What we all will hopefully do is look for the good that lies within, and continue to do what's best for children.

There's a lot of criticism out there about the CCSS. And while it's important to read opinions from all sides, it can be hard to find teachers writing about their positive stance about the new standards. This post, as a result, is refreshing and uplifting. And also, it might shift your thinking a little if you're a member of the anti-CCSS camp.

M.O.R.E. has an interesting collection of online activities aligned to CCSS for grades 3-12. Definitely worth a look. 

There are some brilliant Common Core related ideas out there. This is one of them! Tying project based learning and global projects to the CCSS really demonstrates the powerful shifts that the new standards can bring about. This video is worth the watch.

This is written for librarians. But my school doesn't have a library, so I think for teachers in my situation, this offers some great advice about how to approach the shift to non-fiction that the Common Core calls for. 

I'm not in a PARCC state...so I wonder how similar the consortia's assessments will be and thus how useful posts like this will be. BUT, if you are in a PARCC state, I think this is a great read. Interesting stuff.

This post from Education Gadfly's Common Core Watch is thought provoking. I know there's a lot of pushback on CCSS due to the move toward an increase in the use of informational text. This post questions those critics. Interesting stuff.

Very helpful video from the Teacher Channel. 14 minutes in length, it would be great to show this to middle school math teachers to help them understand the changes expected of them under the CCSS.

It's our hope that the shift to the CCSS will bring about a needed move towards more critical thinking activities in the classroom. Here are some great tips for making that move!
