Am I the only one who enjoys reading local coverage of the Common Core transition? Maybe so, but I find it fascinating to read the take of local organizations such as the Morris Daily Herald when it comes to the CCSS. There are some interesting anecdotes, and possibly some great ideas, contained within this article. Check it out.

Alfie Kohn is a thought leader that I really respect. His opinions always seem to resonate with me. I'm curious to dig into this interview to find out what he thinks about the CCSS. He certainly has some criticisms of national standards that are worthy of consideration.

So wary of publishers that claim to be "aligned" to the CCSS. How is that possible when we don't know what the assessments look like?

The group of states with high-quality CCSS resource collections continues to grow. Came across this site from Hawaii this week and it looks good. I still wish that there was a common resource site for all states (it only make sense with the "common" core, right?) but right now, there isn't. I also wish every state was offering as much as states like Hawaii, Kansas, North Carolina, and others.

I found this helpful for thinking about dealing with the CCSS demands regarding text complexity.

These are the sorts of things teachers need to really get moving on CCSS implementation. Without an idea of what the assessments will look like, it's challenging to shift your teaching. Hopefully we'll see more things like this come out of the assessment consortia.

This is a great article about implementation. It also provides great background about how the CCSS came to be. Definitely worthy of your time.

While I don't agree with all the points Anthony Cody makes in this article, I do think that it is important to learn about criticisms that some people have. With an issue as huge as the CCSS, we should all draw our own informed conclusions by learning about both sides of the story.

Great post on Appendix A of the ELA standards, specifically the few pages that outline the keys to CCSS writing standards. Very informative.

Feeling underprepared for the transition to the Common Core standards? You are not alone. This article shares the stories of some teachers who are worried, to say the least. It also gives an excellent overview of (and links to) some of the resources that different states have created. It also includes a description of how some of the lead writers of the standards are expanding their roles to help schools transition. Overall, this is one of the most thorough articles I've found about the CCSS. If you feel underprepared or under-informed, it's a must-read.

THIS is must use. Created by CCSS authors. The three sections of the site are titled "steal these tools," "you've got to read this" and "by teachers for teachers." That alone had me running, not walking, to check this site out.

Some examples and resources. Definitely need to explore this for ideas for CCSS mathematics.

Twitter can be a great resource for educators working on the Common Core. This article reviews a recent #teaching2030 chat (an awesome chat to follow). The topic was the CCSS.
