Why I'm Saying Goodbye to Twitter - 4 views

  •
Canadian MP Charlie Angus quits Twitter. "Last weekend, I sent my last Twitter message: "Dear Twitter - Adios. Free at last. Free at last, Great God almighty I'm free at last."

It has been documented that Twitter and texting in general causes an addictive response in the human brain .
  •
I have the feeling that despite what he says now, Charlie will be back on Twitter. Maybe using an Avatar? Hard for a Twitter addict with plenty to say on the issues of the day to go cold turkey I would think?
  •
I agree, and expand on it, avatars are an interesting twist on leading a double life or triple or quadruple... hard to maintain integrity with the multiple personalities. I opted out of twitter because of the research on addictiveness to it, even though it was one of the course venues. Same reason I don't have a cel.! call me at home if I am out I am unreachable and living my life elsewhere.

This is a great website. A discussion about informal, workplace learning using Twitter chat. Interesting in both content and format! I will definately try to make the next one. Thanks.

Thanks for this. It looks similar to ConnectedPD (http://connectedpd.posterous.com/). I tried this once and blogged about my experience here: http://goo.gl/6QKRw

Mark, you are proving the serendipitous value of networks today. Thanks for the ConnectedPD link! A close friend is looking for some new ways of looking at math curriculum. :)

Twitter, Facebook, MySpace cry foul on Google+ search - 0 views

  •
Engineers from Twitter, Facebook and MySpace have created an open-source plug-in that they hope proves their worst fears about Google's decision to fold its social results into search - that Google is moving away from its mission to be a neutral directory of the Internet.

To tweet or not to tweet - 2 views

  •
I tend to over tweet although i find it a good way to share messages or opinions...although why do people add and delete all the time. With twitter taking over the social media networking world, its hard not to get caught up.

Governing by Wiki: Social Media Foresight Summary - Policy Horizons Canada - 1 views

  •
Lots to ponder in this article. First and foremost is my great surprise and delight to see a government policy document written in plain language that ordinary Canadians could read. We in the literacy community have been beating that drum with government for many years, usually to no avail. But besides that... I was struck by "Governance by Wiki". How does government respond to social media? Does a Twitter mob get to rule and change government policy by their numbers and shrillness? How does government consider the views of those who are not social media savvy, who don't blog, podcast and Tweet but who are still citizens who voices matter? Just wondering about these and other important issues raised in this article.
