Ever see a 87-93 LX convertible parked next to a cherry '65 ragtop. How about a 87-93 LX coupe parked next to a sweet little ole '65 classic coupe? If you did, its hard to ignore the similarities or is it? Contary to popular belief, the 1987 to 1993 LX coupe and convertibles actually resembles the original classic mustang more than you would ever suspect. Since Ford Motor Company opted to void our late model fox body Mustang, of all classic styling queues, it may not be so obvious to most.

At every race in the 2009 Mustang Challenge racing series, the #00 Media Car has been there, driven by a variety of guest racers. Those guests include the likes of KONI racer Jack Roush, Jr. The Mustang FR500S #00 will be getting another chance in the spotlight, as it is set to hit the Barrett-Jackson auction block, with proceeds going to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

It was wet and wild at the start and the finish, but the eighth annual Targa Newfoundland lived up to expectations of excitement for competitors and spectators alike as it made its way up the East Coast of the island Sept. 12-18. The eventual winners toiled away behind a couple of heavy-hitting leaders through the week, but once the boots had dried Friday Roy Hopkins and Adrienne Hughes moved up to their third overall win in a row.

Vaughn Gittin Jr., who this year traded his 2005 Mustang for a 2010 Mustang GT with a supercharged 4.6L engine, edged up the leader board at Sonoma's Infineon Raceway Aug. 8 with a solid seventh-place finish Aug. 22. The Top 10 finish added to Gittin's points total and moved him up two spots to third place overall with one round remaining in the 2009 Formula Drift Championship.

In the American muscle wars, Ford's 2010 Mustang has received a new ally with the news ConsumerReports placed it above Chevrolet's Camaro and the new Dodge Challenger. The Consumers Union October issue hit the stands Sept. 1.

Fans and owners of Saleen Mustangs have been on a bit of a roller coaster ride over the past few months. First, back in March, it was announced that MJ Acquisitions, the new owner of the brand, would not be covering any of the old company's warranties. Then, a few weeks later, Steve Saleen announced that his new company, SMS Supercars, would cover any warranties (even though they had absolutely NO legal obligation to do so). A little after that, SMS Supercars teased their latest Ford Mustang creations, the SMS 460 and SMS 460X. Everything seemed right with the world. Steve Saleen was back to making tuner Mustangs (albeit under a different name), and loyal customers were having their warranties covered.

It will take a few more years of testing and the requisite safety approvals before Ford's laser ignition system is put into a production model, but the company has indicated that they hope to have the system in some of their premium vehicles (they'll probably start on a Lincoln model) within a few years.
