I find this sentence important because it drives home the point that authentic resources can serve a variety of purposes, from "hooking the students" or activating global knowledge to complex assignments resulting in student presentations, etc. It's a good reminder that, rather than searching for that one perfect piece while under pressure to plan a lesson, it's a good idea to start a digital collection of materials that strike me as interesting.
  • Think of each authentic resource you have for a theme as a puzzle piece looking for its “best
  • fit.”

I have no annotation because I exceeded my limit :-( But here is the gist: This is a report from a design experiment using synchronous online communication for learning French. The problem: Canada' Core Language program for learning French as a second language resulted in a great number of students with "minimal abilities" to communicate in French. In search of a solution: to use synchronous online communication. Quoting White 2003:"the benefits of using web‐based, real‐time (synchronous) interaction and communication as follows: it is spontaneous; it motivates learners who develop a sense of community and gain energy from the group; it offers opportunities for peer feedback; and it supports the development of interactive competence. Interesting! (Especially given the parameters of our Diigo assignments...) I wonder, though, how the extension identifies which sentences are important. That can be such a subjective call to make.

This is for the Chrome browser - many I didn't know about, but will definitely try!

The Dualless extension that splits the screen sounds very useful for students . . . and teachers! I'm adding this extension right now!
