(TESOL) offers language teachers world-wide the opportunity to participate in the Electronic Village Online (EVO), a professional development project and virtual extension of the TESOL 2011 Convention in New Orleans, LA, USA. The intended audience for this project includes both TESOL convention-goers and those who can participate only virtually. Interest Sections, Affiliates, E-groups, and other member groups of TESOL in particular are invited to sponsor sessions related to the convention. "

Marina Petrovic has started a Ning group to work with and explore Vyew Virtual Classroom. This will be a great help i mastering this online environment. The YG Learning with Computers is begining a new series of activities in March. "Between 2006 and 2008, while teaching "Ethics for Teachers" to EFL teacher trainees at "Profesorado del Liceo Cultural Británico" (Buenos Aires - Argentina ), and certainly encouraged by the inspiring discussions that were taking place at TESOL EVO workshops, I had the chance to explore the integration of student blogs into the course. Class members were invited to start their own blogs (which I then linked and followed by means of a Feevy students in turn chose to embed into their blog templates) and weekly post their reflections on assigned readings. Since the topics discussed took in sharing values and personal experiences, this seemed a perfect occasion for fostering individual expression. Serving other aims of the course - the development of interculturalism and appreciation of diversity - the weekly assignment also involved posting a comment on at least an entry made by a partner."

This chat room tool might be useful for your classes, or as a backchannel if several teachers are working on a presentation together. The interface can be mounted on your own website, ensuring that students don't wander off. You can easily save a transcript of the chat, and it lets students join from home or other classrooms.
