You also have the option to explore the Solar System without the guidance of a tour. I tried it both ways and found it much easier to use the tours as a guide for exploring the Solar System. Links to famous works by classical composers. A great site to explore, or use for background music to projects. I started listening critically to classical music at age 14 because of an enlightened high school principal who played classical music during study hours and commented on it, too, and it's always been a joy.

Screencasts are often the best way to show students how to do something, and students can easily make them to show each other or to demonstrate their expertise in something. My 9-year-old granddaughter is making screencasts of her game play with Minecraft just for fun.

This is a little complex, but students will catch on fast. One use, pointed out in the QR tutorial, is to create an electronic portfolio where all docs, references, video, photos, etc. can be collected and shared in one place with drag-and-drop. Connects to Twitter and Facebook, of course. Brief video tutorial on the front page, and lots of fun backgrounds and colors to play with.

Nice example of adult learners role-playing on a YouTube video to practice language. A great way to get students energized as they practice listening, speaking, and vocabulary in a semi-authentic setting.

A VoiceThread is a collaborative, multimedia slide show that holds images, documents, and videos and allows people to navigate pages and leave comments in 5 ways - using voice (with a mic or telephone), text, audio file, or video (via a webcam). Share a VoiceThread with friends, students, and colleagues for them to record comments too. Users can doodle while commenting, use multiple identities, and pick which comments are shown through moderation. VoiceThreads can even be embedded to show and receive comments on other websites and exported to MP3 players or DVDs to play as archival movies.

R. Byrne gives us some good tools to use in class with ideas for use with students. The cultural studies uses are unlimited, but also history and politics play a role. Visualize data sets, build a tour or gallery of images, etc.

A great set of little programs to generate haiku, mad-libs, visual poetry, etc. Great fun for writers at all levels. Getting students to play with words is a great way to inspire life-long writing.
